Janessa had made it to the middle of Sakura Forest, and had gotten herself lost, quite on purpose, actually. She was determined to train all of her Pokemon until they just couldn't train any more. She needed to train for not only the first gym challenge, but also for the Star Festival Tournament. While she wasn't necessarily determined to beat the snot out of Ito, she definitely wanted to give him a run for his money! There was no way she was gonna go down easy, not even for a boy that she maybe, kinda had a crush on, just a little bit. Maybe.
Janessa shook her head to get rid of the thoughts about her newest human companion, Ito. She needed to focus on training. However, thus far she hadn't had any luck at all finding anything to battle. Were they all scared of her? Or was she just having a bad day?
"Oi!" Janessa shouted up to the skies, spreading her arms wide. "Somebody, something, come and BATTLE ME, DANGIT!" She heard her challenge echo through the forest, and a satisfied smile appeared on her face. Surely that would bring some challengers to her... right?

Janessa was certainly not alone in the forest, although it seemed to be that way. And while no pokemon purposefully answered her call, two did appear, just perhaps not the way she was expecting. A small Parichisu was sprinting across the ground, fear clear in its eyes as it pumped its legs as fast as they would carry it. In close pursuit was a Seviper, its strong muscles propelling it onward at an advancing pace. Suddenly it lunged, but at the last second the Parichisu vanished, having dove down a hole just big enough for it to fit. The Seviper's jaws snapped shut, catching nothing but air, and it whipped around, red eyes locked on the spot the other pokemon had vanished as it hissed quietly in annoyance. (Thanks for taking my thread, Bella! =D)
Janessa nearly jumped backwards as two Pokemon came crashing through the brush, but she had gotten so used to this life that she managed to restrain herself from reacting on that impulse. She watched as the chase quickly ended, without hardly any time to react. Jeez, those Pokemon moved fast!
Oh, goodness, that was a Seviper. Sure, she had only come here for a battle, but... could she really pass up a Seviper? They were so big, and strong, and... awesome looking! Well, first thing first, she had to battle the creature. But, which Pokemon to use? Well, she should use one of her newer ones that she had gotten from the first day of the festival. They needed to be trained, plus she needed to get to know them better.
"Okay, Disaster, let's have some fun, shall we?" Janessa said as she released the Pokemon that she named- Disaster, her Absol. Disaster huffed and stood almost completely still, gazing at the Seviper that was in front of her.
"Lets start out simple. Use Leer." Janessa said eagerly. Disaster did as she was told and glared evilly at the Seviper in order to lower its defenses. Janessa grinned happily as she watched her Absol obey her, feeling that familiar thrill of the battle. "Great job, Disaster. Stay on your toes." Janessa added. Disaster nodded just slightly in response, keeping her eyes on the Seviper and waiting for it to attack.

((No problem =) ))
The Seviper wasn't paying any attention to Janessa and her recently released Absol. He was far more concerned with the pokemon that had escaped his clutches down the hole he was currently staring at. He was hoping that it might come back up to check and see if the coast was clear, but then again knew that it was far more likely that it wouldn't do any such thing, and would simply find another way out.
As such, it made no attempt to dodge the Leer attack, as it didn't know it was coming and it hit it full force. A loud hiss emanated from the pokemon's throat as it turned about, clearly not pleased with being attacked, and immediately took off in Absol's direction at a frightening speed. As it approached, it made an attempt to swing its body around - which had turned a light shade of violet - and slash the other pokemon with Poison Tail.

The Seviper was moving so fast, that Janessa almost missed the huge snake's attack when she blinked in surprise at the angry hiss that had whispered out from the Seviper's jaws. 'Holy-' Janessa didn't even have time to finish her thought.
"Disaster, wa-" Janessa started to shout to her Absol, but the warning came much too late. That snake was definitely too fast. Absol was struck across the chest with the Seviper's Poison Tail attack, and she skidded backwards about a foot from the impact.
'Well, let's counter that Seviper's speed with some speed of our own, eh?' Janessa thought to herself as she watched Disaster slid backwards. As soon as Disaster had recovered from the attack- luckily, she had managed to stay unpoisoned- Janessa shouted out an order.
"Okay, Disaster, Quick Attack!"
Disaster had begun to execute the attack as soon as she had heard the 'q' sound escape from her trainer's throat. The Absol darted forward, nearly invisible because of the high speed at which she was moving. She was aiming for the Seviper's middle- it would be wise to stay away from the Seviper's head and tail, for obvious reasons.
"Great, Disaster. Quick Attack will be our offensive move for this battle, and also our defensive move. Try to use it to dodge any future attacks, if you can." Janessa suggested to Disaster as the Absol finished the Quick Attack and slowly backed away from the Seviper.

The Seviper struck with its tail, immediately spinning about on the spot so that it was facing forward toward the Absol afterward. It rose tall, red eyes narrowing as it watched the other pokemon carefully, preparing for when it would attack. However, it was not ready for the other pokemon's quick speed, and it found itself tumbling to the ground as the Absol connected with its side.
The moment it was upright, the Seviper took off after Absol as the pokemon retreated. It attempted to dart forward, and swing the back of its body around, its goal to use Wrap, and slink its body about the middle of the opposing pokemon.

"Quick Attack to dodge, Disaster!" Janessa shouted when she saw the Seviper start advancing towards her Absol. Distaster attempted to do as Janessa had suggested, but the Seviper moved faster than she had expected, and so she wasn't quite able to make a getaway. The Seviper was successful in its attempt to wrap Disaster up in his tail, a firm and painful Wrap attack. Absol struggled for a few moments to release herself from the wild Seviper's grasp, but she was stuck pretty good.
At this point, Disaster began to panic just a bit. If the wild Seviper decided to squeeze much harder, then breathing would become quite difficult. She looked at her trainer with a frenzied look in her eyes, and Janessa could tell that the Absol was about to completely lose her cool.
"Disaster! Stay focused." Janessa spoke firmly and calmly, without letting any edge of panic touch her tone of voice. "Bite the Seviper! Try to get its face or throat."
Disaster nodded quickly and then stretched her neck forward as far as it would go, her jaws open wide, showing her vicious pearly white fangs. She attempted to chomp down right on the wild Seviper's face, just as Janessa had told her to. And if she missed, then she would try to Bite the Seviper again, but somewhere more within her reach, like the Seviper's throat. Her goal was to cause as much pain as possible, so that the wild Seviper would release her.
Janessa clasped her hands behind her back, and then crossed her fingers. Hopefully her strategy would work and Disaster would be released from the Seviper's wrap attack. If not, she wasn't really sure what she would do next...

Typically when ensnaring an enemy, or prey, Seviper was not a fool, and would not bring its head and neck into a position where they could compromise him. But he had had the intention of finishing the Absol off with hits own Bite attack, and as such had been edging closer slowly, preparing to strike quickly. As it began its movement forward, Absol reached out toward it, and managed to get her attack in first.
The Seviper hissed loudly in pain, its body unwrapping from around the Absol's body. However, its tail came around as it aimed to use Poison Tail again, and slash the Absol across the body. In the very least it was hoping to get the other pokemon away from it so that it could recover for a few moments.

As Disaster felt the Seviper's body uncoil, she felt a wave of relief wash over her body, making her slightly weak. The adrenaline that had built up quickly fled, and was replaced by tiredness. She saw the attack coming and tried to get out of the way, but she really couldn't do much because of the state she was currently in. So the Poison Tail slashed across her side, near her back leg. She cried out in pain.
The relief that she had felt just a few short seconds ago was gone, and Disaster had her head back on straight. She was ready to go, although a bit weaker than before. Without waiting for Janessa's order, the Absol suddenly darted forward with a Quick Attack, aiming to slam into the Seviper's side.
Janessa breathed a sigh of relief as she saw that Disaster was released from the Seviper's grasp. However, the relief was short-lived, as her Absol was soon struck with a Poison Tail. Instead of calling out a command, Janessa watched Disaster, trying to see if the Pokemon was poisoned or not. She didn't appear to be poisoned... and she also seemed to still be ready to continue the battle. Right before Janessa had the opportunity to call out a command, Disaster acted on her own.
Janessa smiled, glad that the Absol still had a mind and a will of her own, instead of always relying on the trainer for commands and strategies and whatnot.

The Seviper lashed out with its tail, feeling it connect. Its attention was mainly focused on the pain in its neck however, and it was wincing from it, its eyes half closing in pain. It was slightly unbalanced after its counterattack, and was in the process of evening out, and trying not to move its head as it did so, when the Absol suddenly darted forward.
It had been expecting a command from the trainer that would alert it to an attack, but the pokemon simply acted on its own, and its speed caught the Seviper off guard. It felt the other pokemon slam into its body, and was sent rolling across the ground. It took it a moment longer than usual to get back up, and when it did it seemed hesitant to strike again, and chose instead to wait for Disaster to make the next move.

Both Janessa and Disaster watched the Seviper carefully as it recovered from the quick attack. Obviously, they were expecting some kind of speedy, harsh retaliation- and when none came, they were a bit confused and not totally sure what to do.
'Okay, so this could be two things- either the Seviper is getting really weak and is too tired or hurt to attack, or the Seviper is trying to bait us into attacking so that we can play right into whatever strategy he has.' Janessa thought to herself as Disaster looked over to her for directions, looking a bit baffled. 'Well, I hope its the first one, because we're gonna attack. No sense in just sitting here.'
"Okay, Disaster. Quick Attack again... and after you attack, get away as quick as you can. Don't linger within the Seviper's striking distance." Janessa told her Pokemon. Disaster waited for a moment, staring at the Seviper. Then she suddenly shot forward like a bullet from a gun, aiming her Quick Attack at the Seviper's side, as per usual. After she attacked, she skittered backwards as fast as she could, attempting to follow Janessa's suggestion and stay out of the Seviper's reach.

The Seviper was a close-range fighter. Consequently, Absol was staying out of its reach, and it knew that. If this battle were to continue, he needed the other pokemon to approach him so that he could make a move to attack. What made it difficult was the speed that Disaster reached when it used its Quick Attack. It was troublesome for the Seviper to watch where it was going, and keep its eye on the target, but it did its best as the Absol grew closer and closer.
When the other pokemon leapt forward to attack, Seviper did the same. It felt the Absol connect with the side of its body, and it simultaneously attempted to shoot its upper body forward and bite the opposing pokemon before it could leap out of range.

A look of surprise breifly crossed Disaster's face as she realized suddenly that she couldn't move. She soon deduced that the Seviper's bite attack, which she had barely seen coming towards her, must have connected. However, the most confusing part was that she didn't feel any pain- none at all. She wiggled around, trying to escape the Seviper's grasp, and then she figured out that the Seviper's bite attack had closed on her head blade. There was no pain, but she really couldn't move- the Seviper's powerful jaw was clenched too hard on her blade.
Janessa's eyebrows came up at she took in the situation that her Absol was in. Not hurt by the bite attack, but definitely stuck. She scrunched up her face a bit as she tried to think of a way to get Disaster out of this little plight... Hm.
"Okay, Disaster, try a Dark Pulse." Janessa suggested, sounding just a little bit doubtful. And the Absol knew why her trainer sounded unsure of the command- because of how Disaster was positioned, she couldn't exactly see the Seviper, so aiming would be difficult. Not only that but a Dark Pulse was generally meant to be shot forward- and if she did that, she would be attacking the ground. But it was better than just standing there and doing nothing, right?
Thus, Disaster twisted her head around as far as it would go so that she could face the Seviper, although it hurt her neck a bit to fight against the Seviper's hold. Then as soon as she thought she had a decent chance of actually hitting her opponent, Disaster let loose a Dark Pulse attack.
Both Janessa and Disaster sincerely hoped that this would work, because if Disaster was stuck in this position for too long, then there wouldn't be much chance of dodging an attack like Wrap or Poison Tail.

The Seviper felt its powerful jaws close around the Absol, and it shut them hard, pressing its sharp teeth in. However, it hadn't found soft skin, which irritated it, as it extremely diminished the power of its attack. As such, it decided to use the Bite attack simply as a means of grabbing hold, and proceeding to try something else. It's intention was to sling its body forward and Wrap the Absol up, planning to use Lick the moment it had a good hold.
However, as it moved its body forward, the Absol twisted around and unleashed a Dark Pulse. It didn't hit the Seviper full on, but it made enough contact to cause the pokemon to lose its hold and be pushed backward. A loud hiss sounded as a result of the Seviper's frustration, and it immediately whipped around its tail, aiming to Slash the Absol with another Poison Tail attack.
The move was weaker and slower however, as that Dark Pulse in combination with the Absol's previous attacks were starting to take their toll on him.

Disaster was more than happy to be free from the wild Seviper's firm grasp. She side-stepped and then turned around to face her opponent, preparing to attack, listening for orders from Janessa. However, instead of orders, the first thing the Absol got was a Poison Tail to the face. Disaster was knocked over onto her side. She flailed around for a couple of seconds before finally getting to her feet.
Janessa gasped when she saw Disaster get hit by the wild Seviper's attack, and then gasped again as she saw Disaster get up- the Absol had a long (though thankfully shallow) gash on her face. "Oh, shifty..." Janessa murmured.
Then, Disaster shuddered, and a slightly shocked and confused look crossed the Absol's face for just a split second before realization dawned- she had been poisoned. Janessa came to the same conclusion at about the same time. Janessa thought for a moment, and then made a decision.
"Disaster! Come here for a moment." Janessa said firmly, sliding her bag off of her back and rummaging through it for a moment. She pulled out a potion as Disaster approached. 'I hate to use potions in the middle of a battle... it feels like cheating. But I'm not gonna let Disaster lose her first battle under my direction.' Janessa thought as she sprayed the magical purple stuff onto the Absol's cuts and bruises.
"Okay!" Janessa said once the bottle was empty. "You're all set. Get back out there and kick some Seviper tail." She grinned as she spoke.
That was all the encouragement Disaster needed. She was feeling great- almost completely healed- although she could still feel the poison coursing through her veins. Disaster practically pranced back out into the battlefield. She watched the Seviper for a moment, poised to strike. But then she backed down, and decided not to attack this turn. It was only fair, right? And Janessa was in agreement. She allowed Disaster to back down and give the Seviper the opportunity to attack first.
