One of Jericho's favorite hobbies was to ride his Rapidash, Blaze, through the meadow near Reinshaw. That's precisely what he was doing now, after a long day of meditation and an empty gym, Jericho wanted some fresh air, and Blaze loved to go for these rides as well.
The only fire horse wasn't much of a battler, but Jericho wasn't worried about that. He left his other pokemon at home, riding a trail he had traveled many times before. Most wild pokemon ran when they saw the giant fire pokemon. After all, he was fairly large, and that horn was intimidating. Blaze was usually gentle though, and even played with young child and small pokemon with the utmost care.
Jericho sighed deeply, taking in the moist, cool air into his lungs. This always helped him clear his mind. He wasn't constantly hearing other people's emotions ringing in his head. He sometimes preferred pokemon over people due to his empathy.
They got to a stream, and Jericho hopped off, letting Blaze drink. He pat the old fire horse's neck as he did so. Looking around, at first, Jericho saw nothing. But Blaze stood upright, looking around. He sensed something nearby...

Of course Jericho and Blaze were not alone- you were never completely, one hundred percent alone when you were out and about in a route. Wild Pokemon could be anywhere and everywhere. And there was one particular wild Pokemon who had taken an interest in Jericho and Blaze- well, he actually didn't give a hoot about Jericho. His focus was totally on the big fire horse. Said wild Pokemon held completely still, easily blending in with the shrubbery of the route. He waited, and waited, and waited, with only one thing on his mind: battle. As the human and Pokemon pair made their way towards the water, the wild Pokemon readied himself. He aimed carefully, watching them as they came just a bit closer to him. Then as Jericho dismounted from Blaze, the wild Pokemon made his attack. Without moving other than the slight dancing of his orange leaves, he shot a strange orange substance into the air... and then it began raining the substance, which as it drew closer could be seen to be a powder of sorts. A stun spore attack, coming from seemingly out of nowhere. Level 23 Chlorophyll Absorb, Sweet Scent, Acid, Poisonpowder, Stun Spore, Sleep Powder, Mega Drain

Jericho had his guard up, and so did Blaze. The toxic substance was spotted and easily avoided by the fire horse. Jericho wasn’t as fast as his Pokémon though, and was a little too close to Blaze when the attack was issued. He moved back out of the way quickly, but still inhaled some of the substance. Blaze looked at his trainer with concern, but Jericho shook his head, moving back some more from what he assumed was the location of the offending Pokémon.
“I’m alright.” Jericho’s cough didn’t help him build his case at all, “I just got a little.”
Blaze responded by pawing one hoof into the ground, and flaring his flaming mane. Whoever did this to his trainer was about to pay. He looked around carefully and caught the scent of a Gloom nearby. Sure enough, he finally spotted the foul-smelling grass Pokémon. Blaze stomped both feet and poised for an attack. At his response, Jericho caught sight of the Pokémon as well.
“Heh, I feel like a kid again, Blaze. Remember that Paras we battled when we first met?” Jericho coughed again. Once he was done here, he’d need to rest, possibly stop in a Pokémon center to find out exactly what he needed to do. As of right now, all he had was a small cough, but that could get worse quickly.
“Alright pal, this guy needs to be taught a lesson. Blaze, use Flame Wheel on that Gloom!”
It was too bad this Pokémon wasn’t a psychic type at all, Jericho thought. It’d be interesting to have a Pokémon like that battle for him and not against him.

Despite the blank, empty look on the wild Gloom's face and the endless stream of foul-smelling honey drooling from his lips, this Pokemon was far from stupid, and most definitely not inexperienced. This Pokemon lived to battle, and he wasn't about to lose just because he had a type disadvantage. He knew how devastating a fire attack could be on a guy like him. Fortunately for him, he had the advantage of knowing what move the enemy was going to make before even the enemy knew it- the trainer calling out the attacks. He could use this to his liking...
Flame Wheel, hm? That was an attack that could cover a very large area. somewhat difficult to dodge. However, the Flame Wheel attack had a hole- pardon the pun, but the attack was exactly what it said: a fire attack with a hole in the middle, like a wheel. So if the Gloom was careful about it, he could dodge the attack by jumping right through the middle. And that is exactly what he did. He watched as the fire quickly approached him, and then he navigated through the attack, jumping as fast and as accurately as he could. His leaves got a little bit toasted, but he was still battle-ready.
The wild Gloom decided that it was time for a good combo-attack. He began with a Sweet Scent, blowing a slight breeze towards his enemy, soothing and nearly invisible, to calm his enemy and lower the fire horse's chances of dodging. Then, he subtly added another flavor to his Sweet Scent- litttle golden flecks began gently flowing around in the yummy-smelling breeze, a hidden Stun Spore attack. The wild Gloom watched with slightly narrowed eyes, hoping that his combo-attack would have a good outcome.

Jericho coughed hard as he watched the round of battle take place. That Gloom wasn't a slouch. It dodged Blaze's Flame Wheel like it was nothing. It didn't seem to be too powerful, but what it lacked in power, it made up for in brains.
Jericho saw the Sweet Scent, and really wasn't too concerned. Blaze rose up on his hind legs and snorted fire, letting his natural mane take care of most of the powders floating on the breeze. However, the horse bucked, and shook itself, before standing funny. Jericho recognized the Stun Spore again now. This was ridiculous, a wild grass type shouldn't be able to beat him and Blaze!
Blaze shook himself again, trying to shake loose from the paralysis, but with little luck. He looked up at the Gloom and glared at it. This was even more personal now. Jericho was sick because of this Pokemon and it was going to be up to Blaze to get him home safely. All of the psychic Pokemon were back at the gym. He wasn't sure if they'd be able to sense their trainer in distress from this or not, so he had to win and shake this off to get them both home.
This Gloom, used a combo, so Blaze would to!
"Blaze! Use--" Jericho's body shook as he coughed. Maybe he wasn't as well as he thought at first. He shook his head hard, taking in a deep breath, "Combo!" He coughed again.
Blaze knew he trainer and friend well, and knew exactly which combo he needed. Now if he could pull it off in this state, he'd be one lucky horse. He pawed at the ground as he gathered his strength. If this hit, he was sure the battle would be over. He ran at full gallop, using Quick Attack, before his horn began to glow. The combo of Mega Horn and Quick attack was in effect. The bug type move would do a good amount of damage to the wild Gloom if it connected, especially with the backup power of the Quick Attack.

The wild Gloom's normally vacant expression turned to one of frustration as the horse's trainer merely shouted 'combo' as an instruction. Unfortunately for him, the horse actually seemed to know what the human was gabbing about. A bit nervous, the Gloom took a couple steps backwards as the fire horse temporarily fought off the effects of the paralysis. When the horse began to charge towards him, he knew he was in trouble. Thankfully, even though the fire horse was moving, it was still slowed a bit because of the paralysis status. That gave the Gloom just enough time to react. All he had to do was avoid that horn, and he would be safe... for now.
In order to hit him with the Mega Horn attack, the fire horse Pokemon would have to bend down fairly low. Gloom wasn't exactly a big target. He couldn't risk jumping over the horse, because then it could jsut snap its head up and hit him in the butt with the Mega Horn attack. And if he stayed there, even if he missed the Mega Horn, he'd be trampled underfoot. So he rolled to the side, but unfortunately not fast enough to avoid the Quick attack portion of that combo. The fire horse's vicious hooves nicked him pretty hard on the side, and he went flying sideways into the stream that Jericho had stopped by before the battle had begun.
Coughing and spluttering, he resurfaced and waddled out of the stream, using it to seperate him from the fire horse. He shook his leaves in an attempt to dry himself, and then he shot a couple of Acid attacks at the enemy, although they were poorly aimed because he was still a bit disoriented from the Quick Attack and the sudden, undesired swim.

Jericho grinned as the attack hit… sort of. Okay, so it really wasn’t a perfect hit, but this Gloom was smart. He—or she? -- wasn’t faster than Blaze, but it knew to try to move at least. And when the fire horse’s hooves made contact, the Gloom went flying into the river.
Jericho inhaled deeply, and was about ready to walk over to Blaze to leave, when he saw the Gloom resurface and stare back at them. Jericho wouldn’t have left if he thought the Pokémon was injured, but he thought it’d at least run off by now. However, he was wrong and he had to move back again, keeping Blaze between him and it.
Blaze snorted and pawed the ground again. This was way too difficult! They both needed to get back into town. He could tell that he was slowing because of the Stun Spore and he knew Jericho was getting weaker. He was sure it wasn’t life threatening—yet—but if Jericho got any sicker, he’s lose focus on his own mental ability, and that could make him very sick, very quickly. Blaze reared up and prepared for his next move.
Then the Acid attacks were being spit out. Jericho tried to call out to dodge but barely got anything out. Blaze really didn’t need to be told to dodge though, that was common sense. Blaze jumped up, jumping from side to side, and turned, trying to avoid a hit, but took one right over his left rear leg. The old fire horse let out a painful cry and stumbled, falling to the ground.
This was a lot worse than Jericho had never imagined, luckily though, he always had Pokémon medicine on him. He didn’t like this one bit, and ran over, quickly pulling out his only Full Heal. He quickly sprayed it over Blaze, and even though it didn’t do anything for his health, the acid burn and the paralysis were lifted. Blaze jumped up quickly and used himself as a shield between the Gloom and Jericho.
“Alright pal, let’s try another combo…” Jericho huffed, fighting the tickle in his throat, “Quick Attack and Flame Wheel! Go!”
Blaze reared up and charged forward, leaping over the stream and flaring the flames on his mane and tail. He couldn’t miss this time, he was too fast! …right?

The wild Gloom glared at Jericho and his fire horse as they utilized the full heal. Stupid humans, always interfering. They could never just let their Pokemon battle it out. Bah. But he couldn't let that discourage him- he still had a battle to fight. And fight he would. He stood at the ready as Jericho spluttered out some orders for his fire horse. Unfortunately, he couldn't hear what the human said, so he had no idea what was coming. But when the fire horse started charging towards him, clearing the small stream in one leap, he knew that he was in for some pain.
He couldn't move fast enough to avoid the attacks, and both of them hit dead on. He would have been able to hold on for a little longer if it wasn't for his natural weakness to fire. But, since he was, the attacks knocked him out cold.

Jericho sighed and coughed hard. At least the battle was finally over. Now he could go home and fix his own health issue. He looked over at the fallen Gloom and debated on catching it or not. He had a pokeball with him to do it. Jericho typically didn’t catch many Pokémon, and when he did, it was usually because they were injured and he wanted to get them some help. This Pokémon wasn’t a psychic type and Jericho tended to only keep psychic types. Blaze here was the one exception because he had found out how much he loved riding horseback.
Jericho decided against it, leaving the Gloom where it was. Maybe another trainer, one who could use a nice grass type, would come along one day. Blaze jumped the stream again and trotted right up to his trainer, nuzzling his chest and making eye contact, as if he were asking if Jericho was okay. Jericho patted his snout and walked around, hopping up onto the fire horse.
“Alright buddy, home.”
