Janessa was keeled over, bent in half. Her hands were on her knees and she was breathing very hard. She had just sprinted the entire way from the Laboratory to here, the Sakura Forest, and now she was paying the price of that extreme exertion. She shook her head slightly and mentally scolded herself.
After a couple of minutes had passed, Janessa finally caught her breath and stood up straight. A small smirk appeared on her face as she took the lonely pokeball off of her belt. She released the Pokemon that was within, blinking in surprise at the red light that greeted her before her Skarmory appeared. The steel type rustled his metal feathers and then peered up at Janessa.
The two looked at each other for a couple of silent moments. Janessa could see lots of spirit and intelligence in her Skarmory's black eyes, and that made her extremely happy. That meant that the Skarmory wouldn't just be her Pokemon, it would be her friend and confidant.
When the Skarmory gazed at his new trainer, he saw an expression of excitement, hope, determination, and most of all, happiness. He approved of this girl, so far. He was confident that she would prove to be a wonderful and a strong trainer. To convey his loyalty, he bowed his head, his long neck curving gracefully.
Janessa's smile grew as her Skarmory bowed his head to her. She stroked his steely, cold neck with the tips of her fingers. "Hello, Galbaatar." She said, speaking the name that she had chosen for him.
Galbaatar raised his head and spread his wings suddenly. Janessa took a surprised step back. Galbaatar flapped his wings and became airborne for just a moment. Then he stood there, watching his trainer as she began to move forward into the forest.

Galbaatar and Janessa were not alone in the forest. Pokemon soared the skies, burrowed underground, perched in trees, and skittered across the grass. Rustling noises were common as movement from the wind, and the pokemon within' created sound. The fluttering of wings could be heard, the tap of claws on hard ground, and the swoosh of grass as bodies moved through the long green fingers. Then suddenly, one of these pokemon appeared. A Glameow appeared from behind a tree and dashed across the path into a bush. It reemerged on the other side, taking off into a small clearing off to the right, which was surrounded by trees. It was not alone when it reached this spot however, as a Starly currently occupied a low hanging branch, and made a quite twittering sound at the sight of the Glameow. (Messing with font, so I apologize if my posts are difficult to read. x.x
Should I be starting to keep track of word count/EXP now, or does it not come into effect until I actually start a battle?)
Janessa was startled just slightly by the sudden appearance of the Glameow. She winced just a bit, much to her shame- if she was going to be a good Pokemon trainer, she couldn't always be shying away from everything that made an appearance, no matter how sudden or out of the blue that appearance might be. She sighed softly after mentally scolding herself, but then she perked up. This was, after all, her first encounter with a wild Pokemon.
Filled with excitement, Janessa followed after the Glameow- although she wasn't as light on her feet or as graceful as the cat Pokemon had been- into the clearing. Then she caught sight of the Starly, and she was a bit confused. She didn't really know what to do. Try and talk to the Pokemon? Could she try and battle both of them? Was it rude to just start battling?
Ganbaatar followed behind his trainer, very curious as to what she would do. Janessa just stood there for a while, being indecisive and mentally arguing with herself. Gan sighed, and then eyed the other two Pokemon that were in this clearing with him. If Janessa or the two wilds didn't begin to interact soon, then he would challenge one of them to a battle to get the ball rolling. He was definitely in the mood for a good battle.

((I'd say your next post is a good time =) Whenever you engage a pokemon, like catch it's attention, start then. In battles with other trainers, whenever the first attack is thrown.))
Both Glameow and Starly's attention went immediately to Janessa when she entered the clearing, and then to the more important of the two: Ganbaatar. That Skamory was huge! At least in comparison to them. It was nearer in height and size to the girl, but towered over the both of them, and neither were very interested in sparking a battle with it. They would of course defend themselves if the need arose, however.
Glameow turned about to face them, her curled tail bouncing up and down like the spring that it resembled. She was clearly on her guard, her body tightened, up on her toes, her nose and whiskers twitching.
Starly on the other hand appeared much more relaxed. He wasn't much one to worry, unlike the Glameow, which seemed far more on edge. If a battle started, a battle started. He wasn't interested in being a part of it though, and it didn't even seem to occur to him that it may be him that Janessa wanted, and not the Glameow. He just appeared content to watch.

(Thanks. ^_^)
Gan looked from Janessa, to the Glameow, to the Starly, and then back to Janessa. They all seemed to be having a stare-down of sorts, with everyone just watching everyone else. Gan sighed impatiently, and then took a few steps forward. He looked at both the Glameow and the Starly so that they knew that he was addressing them both.
<Would either of you be willing to battle me?> Gan asked plainly, getting right to the point. He wasn't much of a socializer and he didn't ever really beat around the bush. Very blunt, and sometimes it could be considered to be a flaw or a fault. Then Gan noticed how he seemed to be making them nervous- or at least, he was making the Glameow nervous.
<I am not as strong as I might seem.> Gan explained in order to try and pursuade one of them or both or them to battle him. <I am just large in stature.>

((._. Can't read that font at all, XD.))
Both of the pokemon's attention went directly to Gan when he spoke. They watched him carefully, and even exchanged glances with each other. Starly out of curiosity, and Glameow out of hopes that Starly would accept the offer. Well, she could just make a run for it she supposed, but that seemed so cowardly!
Starly let his gaze rest on the Glameow a moment longer, and then seemed to almost shrug its wings, <I will.> He answered.
Without a second's hesitation longer, Glameow darted into the grass and was gone. Clearly she took that as a reason enough for her to leave.
<Be ready!> The Starly announced, rising to his feet. A second later he was gone from sight, and reappeared near Skarmory, aiming to tackle it hard just above the chest.

(Really? It didn't even show up on my computer. Fail-laptop.)
Janessa watched and listened curiously as Gan interacted with the Glameow and the Starly. 'I wish I could understand what they were saying...' She thought as they babbled on in the language of Pokemon. 'It would make being a trainer a whole lot easier, because we wouldn't have to guess at what the Pokemon wanted or felt.'
Gan nodded at the Starly as the little bird accepted his offer. Despite the fact that he wasn't very battle-experienced or high-levelled, he was still very confident that there wasn't much this Starly could do to him. However, he was definitely caught off guard by the Starly's speed... the Tackle hit and caused Gan to step back to catch his balance. He let out a steely caw of excitement; finally, his first real battle. Gone were the days of wrestling in the restraints of the Laboratory.
Janessa decided that she had better do her job as a trainer and command her Skarmory. It would help both her and him become better battlers and partners. "Gan, start with Leer." She commanded... although her tone of voice made it sound more like a timid suggestion. Gan obeyed his trainer, catching the Starly's eyes are leering evilly at it.

((XD. I have a Mac and they recognize like every font in existence XP))
Starly felt himself connect with the Skarmoy, and he immediately flared out his wings, giving them a hard flap in order to push himself back and away from the steel pokemon. He felt a tad bit dizzy, and was starting to wonder if that attack had done more harm to him or the other pokemon. Gan's sheer size made him a formidable opponent for the much smaller Starly, but it was its steel coating that really made things difficult.
Starly landed on the ground, its wings spread in order to provide quick escape. He lifted his head, meeting Skarmory's gaze... Just as Janessa ordered it to use Leer. Starly felt its body weaken slightly. He lifted into the air, feeling his speed had not changed, and once more disappeared from sight, appearing a foot or so away, then vanishing again. When it was visible once more, it was behind Skamory, and attempting to use Tackle once more, aiming for the back of the pokemon's neck, hear its wing joints.

(Awesome. xD)
Janessa felt a thrill run through her as the battle commenced. This was extremely exciting for her... of course, she was a fairly excitable person. Grinning like the cheshire cat, she watched as Gan leered at the Starly. Although it wasn't visible, she could assume that the wild Pokemon's defenses had been lowered. 'Okay... so now we peck the heck out of it. Ganbaatar is almost too big for this forest... there's not a lot of room for him to fly around.'' She thought as she glanced around their surroundings. Then Janessa realized that the Starly had disappeared again. 'Dang, he's fast!' She thought, amazed. And from the way that Gan was looking around him, she could tell that he was thinking the same thing.
Gan had no chance of dodging the Tackle that came from behind, because he had no idea where his opponent was. He had just started to turn his head when the Starly struck him at the base of his neck. It hurt! The Starly had found a good spot to hit. "Peck!" Janessa shouted as soon as she saw the Starly make contact with Gan. Ganbaatar jumped to the side and whipped his head around in an attempt to smash his beak against the Starly.

Starly had no choice but to use his speed to his advantage. Obviously size and strength were out of the question. The only good thing about Gan's hulking frame was that there wasn't very much room in the clearing for him to spread his wings, while the agile Starly could move easily about within' the area. The trees gave him an advantage here, as they acted as bars around the small circle.
Starly felt himself connect with Gan again, but this time, he truly found himself dizzy and disorientated. The first time he'd struck had hurt a little, but this time seriously did! The effects of that Leer lowering his defense had taken their toll. Due to his current state, Starly had no chance to avoid the Skarmory's powerful Peck attack, and felt it connect, sending him flying to the ground where he crashed.
The world was spinning around him, and he rolled over onto his side, his body aching. That had seriously hurt, and he didn't feel much like he could get up.

Gan watched the Starly land on the ground and gave a small nod to himself- obviously he approved of his own battling skills. He took a step forward to finish off the Starly, but then Janessa interrupted him.
"Wait, Gan... I don't know if I feel comfortable attacking a Pokemon who doesn't have a chance of fighting back." She explained hesitantly, staring at the fallen Starly. Ganbaatar turned and looked at Janessa curiously. What were they to do, then? Stare at the Starly until it got up, and then attack it? Or just leave it lying there in the middle of the clearing?
Janessa watched the Starly, ignoring Gan's stare. She wanted to see what the Starly would do. Get up and continue the fight? Try to run away? Simply lay there? Or would instincts kick in make him faint?

Starly felt Gan approach, and its entire body tensed, preparing for the attack that was sure to come. But then the girl interfered, telling the pokemon that she didn't want him to attack when he was defenseless. Another point for Janessa in the Starly's mind. Except that kind of sounded like an insult too... No chance of fighting back? How weak did she think he was? About as weak as he was, he supposed... His mind was a blur though, so these thoughts were running wild.
The severely weakened pokemon fought its way back to his feet, using its wings as props. It swayed from side to side, clearly off balance and dizzy. At last, it attempted to take a step forward, but its leg buckled, and it collapsed once more. This time however, it was not getting back up. It was out cold.

A small smile appeared on Janessa's face as the Starly wobbled to its feet, and then hit the ground again as it fainted. Gan stepped back from the fainted Starly and looked at his trainer. Janessa scooped up the little bird Pokemon and set it in a nearby tree, away from potential predators. She had decided not to catch it- she didn't really want another flying type at this point, Ganbaatar was good enough for her.
Then Janessa turned back to her Pokemon. "Okay, Gan, lets go back into town." She said. Gan nodded, and Janessa returned him to his Pokeball. No need to show off her giant steely bird while walking through the city.
(Okay, all done. Should I add the levels myself or is that the duty of the moderator?)
