Markus could see the pokemon lab in the distance. His father had told him to be polite when he was face to face with the professor. "Make sure you tell her what type of pokemon you want. It makes it easier for the professor to help you." Those words had stuck to him like glue all the way to the lab. Yet he was still unable to decide.
"Haunter may be a ghost type but it is as gentle as any cute pokemon. You just have to remember to be gentle to it in return." His mom had always let him play with her haunter and her other ghost-type pokemon. he wasn't even afraid when one of the gengar they had been raising for someone ran amok. He had the scars to prove that. His brother thought it better to train dragon pokemon after his mother's death. He became a natural with gible and bagon that he even thought a dragon type would be a great starting partner. His brother always said: "Dragons teach patience. If you are calm and patient then so will your dragon"
Markus knocked on the big door of the lab and yelled out for anyone inside to hear. "Hello, Is Anyone There? My Names Markus Desoto. I was told to come today to recieve my starter pokemon. I would Like A Dragon Or A Ghost type If I may?"

"Just a moment!" A female voice called from inside in response to Markus' loud entrance. There was a short delay, before the sound of footsteps became evident as someone descended the stairs. A woman in her early thirties became visible as she pulled open the door, a smile on her face, "Welcome!" She greeted, "My name is Professor Storm."
Behind her, a good portion of the lab could be seen. Directly in front at the very back of the room sat a rather large desk, covered with papers and empty coffee mugs, and of course a full, fresh and steaming one. To the left was a huge window, which was actually a sliding glass door, that lead out to a great open pasture of green grass, and was clearly where pokemon were let out to play. To the right, an open room that was obviously a lounge, and a set of grand stairs that lead upward. To the right of the desk, at the far back, a large open archway stood, leading into a dark room.
She instantly began to drift back toward the disorganized desk, "So you're here for your first pokemon? And a Ghost type, at that? Or a Dargon? Interesting variation in choice. Just follow me on back here." She was in a bit of a hurry today, but she would never intentionally rush a new trainer through their acquisition of their first pokemon. It was too important of a moment.
Settling down in the chair at her desk, she drew from an open file cabinet to her right, a thin manilla folder, "Let me see what I have for you." She said, with a quick glance in his direction, before she began to thumb through the sheets of paper in the folder, quickly scanning each individual one.
It took but a short moment before her attention returned to the young man, "Alright, I have a few choices for you. The first is a male Ghastly, level 5, who knows Hypnosis, Lick, and Spite. The second, a male Shuppet, level 5, who knows Knock Off and Screech." She paused for a brief moment, before adding, "We only have one dragon-type available however, and that is a male Trapinch, who will eventually evolve into a dragon-type. Level 5, he knows Bite."
She closed the file, and set it on the desk in front of her, "Do any of those appeal to you, dear?" She inquired with a smile.

Markus looked at the pokeballs in front of him. In front of him was now a way to have a piece of his mother, and show his brother that he had patience! He knew that he wouldn't choose the shuppet, and that left him with only the gastly or trapinch to claim. He remembered the argument hs brother and his dad had just three days before he set off to the lab. "Dragons are what we need on the crest dad!" his brother had stated. "Its time we move on from the hurtful events from the past. Mom would...." Don't You Dare Say What Your Mother Would Want!" his dad had yelled. "She was a woman who stuck to her traditions! She and her haunter would be shamed at your false accusations in her name! The Ghost -type will remain our family's emblem, never will it change!"
His brother had left after that, leaving markus and his dad alone to run the farm. His dad had to hire on some extra help when the time came for markus' departure. "Make sure you never falter from your dreams markus. Never let anyone tell you cannot achieve what you set your mind on. Coming to that realization, markus knew exactly which pokemon to choose. He picked up the pokeball with pride and held his mother's necklace up to his lips. "I will make you proud mom, i promise!" He holds the pokeball out and calls to what he hopes to be his new partner. "Gastly, Stand By For Battle!" Gastly appears from the pokeball and stares at markus. Markus Looks back at him in approval. "How about i call you Fear? That sound like a good name?" Gastly Licked markus, paralyzing him instantly and laughed about it. "Fear it is"

"Wonderful!" The Professor exclaimed, "I'm glad you like him." A smile graced her lips as she pulled open a drawer to her side, and withdrew from it a medium sized black bag, which she handed to Markus, "Here are your starter items." She informed him, before pulling open a second drawer, "And the last thing you'll need is your pokedex. What color would you like? We have every typical color, and a light and dark version of each." Name: Ghastly Gender: Male Level: 5 Abilities: Levitate Attacks: Hypnosis, Lick, Spite You also received: Pokeball x5 Potion x5 Full Heal x4 Town Map x1 Pokedex x1 Berry Bag x1 TM Case x1

"I will take the black pokedex." Markus organized his things accordingly and realized that he would have to catch a team that could handle all of the gym leaders. "Thanks for the gastly Professor! Me and fear will be the greatest trainers you have ever seen, just you wait." With that said, Markus turned to his new partner. "I have been wondering this for a while but, can you talk? make a noise? something?" Fear stuck out his tounge and floated out of Markus's reach.

The Professor secured a black pokedex from the drawer, and handed it to Markus, "Alright then dear, I believe you're all set. Good luck!" A smile lighted her lips.
