The time had finally come, the day was at hand. Ralidea bid his home adieu, making his way down the little walkway and onto the road. What a fine day! A wonderfully, terribly, perfectly eventful day. It was the first day he would meet his beautiful new pokemon, the first time he'd allow himself the right to a companion and, coincidentally, the first time he was ever going to travel. He let himself dream of what possible pokemon he might obtain. He hoped for the best.
Looking around, he realized wasn't walking. Oh. Right. He made his way down the road, one foot in front of the other, staring up at the sky as he strolled along. There were so very many pokemon he could get. So many he could meet. So many he-hopefully-would meet. He didn't have aspirations to become some kind of world-renowned hero, he was far to humble. He didn't want to come in contact with those blasted conformist pigs. Just because they destroyed their own home, they wanted the next one over. Preposterous! And hopefully not his problem.
He stopped just before the doors of the lab, awakening from his mindless thoughts just in time to keep from bumping into the door. Taking a deep breath, he entered the room, all smiles and joy. The the utmost display of kiss-up-ishness.
"Hello? I'm here to meet my first pokemon!" he said excitedly. Honestly, he was more concerned then anything. Concerned for his welfare and for the well-being of his pokemon. Good gawd he hoped he didn't get an ugly one. Nah, that was mean, he'd love it either way. Just...from a further distance.

It was a brief moment before someone came greet the young boy. An older man, his hair starting to turn gray around the ears, and who was dressed in a lab coat was who appeared. He smiled warmly down at the boy, "Well hello," He said, his expression calm and gentle, "I don't suppose you're here to get your first pokemon, are you?"
Behind him, a good portion of the lab could be seen. Directly in front at the very back of the room sat a rather large desk, covered with papers and empty coffee mugs, and of course a full, fresh and steaming one. To the left was a huge window, which was actually a sliding glass door, that lead out to a great open pasture of green grass, and was clearly where pokemon were let out to play. To the right, an open room that was obviously a lounge, and a set of grand stairs that lead upward. To the right of the desk, at the far back, a large open archway stood, leading into a dark room.
At the desk sat a woman, who glanced up at the sound of the door opening, and took a quick drink of her coffee, "If that's a new trainer, send her back, Allan!" She called, "I've just enough time to get her started before I've an appointment to keep."
Allan chuckled quietly at the Professor's haphazard appearance and tone. Despite her wild demeanor at the moment, she was a distinguished researcher and an extremely intelligent woman. She just happened to be a bit busy at the moment, and most other moments at that, "Go ahead on back." He told him, "Professor Storm will help you out."

Ralidea broke out into a wide smile, listening patiently as his eyes wandered the room just enough to seem both alert and aloof. He tried oh-so-very hard to keep up appearances. He nodded at the appropriate times, listening and responding bodily like a good boy should. Outwardly he was calm, but inwardly he was genuinely excited. His first pokemon! He always had preferred pokemon to people, honestly. He kept his peripheral vision trained on the man as he took it all in at once.
The building was actually fairly intimidating, what with the sheer largeness of it and all the unused space. The woman's desk was...cluttered. He hated clutter. Some people could work through, over, around, and with it. He could not stand it. That didn't really matter, though, now did it?
The thing that really caught his attention was the comment. 'Her'? 'Her'!? His left eye twitched slightly and his smile wavered, but he almost instantly recovered. Forget it, forget it. She was probably speaking metaphorically. Probably a great deal of girls came through there, no need to bother complaining like a little brat. He turned his smile to the man again, nodding his head,"Thank you, sir!" he said respectfully. With that, he obeyed and strolled over to the woman and her messy desk.

It really wasn't meant as an insult by any means. The sad simple truth was that Allan was nearly completely blind without his glasses, but enjoyed walking about without them when he wasn't doing something of any importance. Therefore, upon seeing Ralidea, all he noted was the somewhat long locks of the boy's hair, and from there he made the poor assumption that it was a girl, "You're very welcome." He replied, before slipping away.
Despite the clutter, Professor Storm was very organized in her mind. She knew where everything was on the desk, even as she shoved aside papers to make space as Ralidea approached, "Hello there!" She chimed, her entire demeanor radiating a fine mood, "I believe I heard you say you're here for your first pokemon." She leaned back in her chair, relaxing, "What type would you like?"

Ralidea's smile got just a tad wider as the woman spoke to him, as he was trying so desperately to appear sane and regular. He inclined his head a few times in a nod as she stated why he was there. He didn't speak for a short time after she inquired as to the type of pokemon he would like to have. Ah yes, type. Honestly, he'd already put a great deal of thought into this decision, as it would most likely effect the course of the rest of his life.
Water types were cool, collected, organized. They kept a level head in most situations and could take their trainer on a ride over misty oceans. They focused their training on cooling down their enemies, giving them little or no reason left to fight. They’re weak against two little things: Electricity-of which water is an excellent conductor; and Grass-which, as shown in plants, only feeds off of water’s natural energy to make itself stronger. Fortunately, it is strong against three things: Fire-which is cooled by water’s cool embrace; Ground-which is left made into sopping mud; and Rock-which sinks to the bottom of water’s deep oceans. They come out on top, he supposed, which made them valuable, but weren’t all too strong against many things.
Fire types were strong, independent, and presumably easy to warm up to. Their extra properties were more based on skill. They focused their time and energy training themselves to literally burn their way through the competition. They’re weak against only three things: Water-obviously, waters do put out fires; Ground-it made sense, cover a fire with something to snuff it and it will go out; and Rock-for the same reason as the ground. It was strong, however, against Grass-fires burn plants with a mocking ease; Ice-if you melt it, it won’t be much more then water; Bug-have you ever held a magnifying glass over an ant; and Steel-melting it down to its base elements. Its strengths only outweigh its weaknesses by a bit, but the pokemon would usually come out on top.
Grass types were sturdy, stable, and grew better with the aide of water. They focused their training on stopping the enemy; things like putting them to sleep or poisoning them. They’re weak against many things: Fire-that burns their bodies and large forests succumb to its cruel murder; Ice-which kills the crops and withers the flowers; Poison-which infects them with diseases and doesn’t allow them to flourish; Flying-the birds that ate their seeds and kept them from breeding; and Bug-for much the same reason as the birds. Their strengths showed through Water-which only supplied them with life; Ground-which let their deep roots anchor them to the ground; and Rock-again, for the same reason as the ground. They did not come close to coming out on top, and would give him more stress then he really needed, always concerned they were going to die.
“May I have a fire type, please?” he inquired in a small, respectful voice, putting on an air of vulnerability. Yes, he’d considered his various different options very closely, and he knew exactly what he wanted. Besides, save for only one most recently discovered pokemon, the looks of his newfound friend were all but guaranteed! He was so hoping for a cute one, but he’d love them either way. Power, independence, hopefully easy-going, what was there to lose?

"Of course!" Professor Storm exclaimed, her expression brightening. She reached down and pulled open a file drawer at her right side. Flicking quickly through the many manilla folders within' in, she selected one, and withdrew it. Spreading out on the part of the desk she'd cleared for space, she began to sort through the pages, and rather quickly at that. Her eyes scanned over the images and information, before flipping to the next page. At last, she folded it closed, and relaxed in her chair once more.
"Alright my dear, I have a few pokemon to offer you." She said, her lips graced with a smile. This was truly one of the most exciting parts of her job, and she enjoyed it immensely, "The first is a Torchic. Level 5. Female. She knows Scratch and Growl." She paused after each piece of information in order to allow it to sink in, "The second is a Vulpix. Level 5. Male, which is rare for the species. He knows Ember and Tail Whip." Another pause to allow consideration, "And lastly is a Ponyta. Level 5. Female. She knows Growl, Tackle, and Tail Whip."
The smile widened on the Professor's lips, "Do any of those appeal to you at all?" She inquired with an arched eyebrow.

Ralidea eagerly awaited her response. What kind of pokemon would he be offered? Hopefully he’d receive some fiery figure of absolute power and magnitude. It was a fantastically maddening affair, all this waiting. Seconds passed like hours and each supposed hour was longer and more grueling then the last. When he’d awoken that morning, a chipper skip in his step and a smile on his face, he had suspected this to be the most exciting day of his life to date-and it was! When she finally spoke again, her response was a bit different then rumors he’d once heard. Ah, so there weren’t just any old starter pokemon, but various selections! He was also satisfied with his selection.
There was no hesitation at all in his voice as he spoke out with certainty, “I would like the Male Vulpix, please. He sounds just perfect for me!” he loved cute things, and Vulpix definitely fit that category. And rare for its breed to boot! He knew for a fact he didn’t want a female, so it was fortunate he was offered such a special male. Possibly the best news of all, however, was its attack. He-no, they would be starting off with a type advantage against quite a few pokemon, instead of having to work and slave and train their way up to that specific time when they would finally have a good type like they would start with.
He was all smiles, satisfied with the outcome of the day thus far. So many good things to come~!

Professor Storm smiled, "Wonderful!" She exclaimed, closing the folder and tucking it neatly back into the file drawer, "Wait here a moment please." She rose gracefully from her seat and swung about the chair, making her way through a tall archway in the wall behind her. She was gone for only a brief moment before she returned, a pokeball in hand, as well as a medium-sized pouch which clearly contained several items. She made her way around the desk and offered both to Ralidea. Indicating her right hand, she said, "Your pokemon." And then the left, "Your starter items." The smile lingered brightly on her lips, "And you're almost set. The last thing is, what color pokedex would you like?" Name: Vulpix Gender: Male Level: 5 Abilities: Flash Fire Attacks: Ember, Tail Whip You also received: Pokeball x5 Potion x5 Full Heal x4 Town Map x1 Pokedex x1 Berry Bag x1 TM Case x1

Ralidea's eyes grew slightly wider from the maddening excitement. He positively couldn't wait to meet his new pokemon. He was already considering various different names for it something original for sure. But all of that could wait. For the moment, he merely continued to smile. He waited as the woman went and got his new pokemon and-to no surprise-his starter kit. Even just these few items made him feel accomplished! He was finally going to start the next chapter of his life! He could already see himself and the pokemon frolicking through fields of flowers and fighting off vicious wild pokemon and viscous humans. Oh the fun they'd have. And all without a single care in the world. Well, none save for all of the horrible people trying to destroy their home as those very same people destroyed their own. But that wasn't why he was here, so he let it go.
However, the simple question caught him off guard. Colors? Ah, oh dear. There was an element to this he hadn't considered!? He took a deep, silent breath, allowing himself a moment to think. Would it be audacious to ask for rainbow? He liked rainbows, and then he wouldn't have to choose one color. But it would be unusual for there to be a rainbow colored pokedex, too much work and too many colors, he reasoned. Yes, he reasoned at last, yes it would be unbearably audacious. Instead, he decided to meet the woman half way, and answer her with a question,"Uhm, well, what colors are there, if I may be so bold?" he asked softly. He hated sounding like an idiot, but he grinned and beared it, awaiting her response. She seemed so nice. He hoped she received some kind of reward for putting on a strait face and putting up with all the girls ad boy that came to receive their pokemon. Although, he recalled, Some people honestly liked to be nice to others. How strange. It was a lifestyle, though, and he wish her he best of luck with it.

A smile graced Professor Storm's lips as Ralidea inquired as to what colors were available, "Just about anything." She responded, "I may not be able to get your a particular shade of something, but we at least have every basic color, and typically a lighter and darker version of each." Red, green, blue, dark red, dark green, dark blue, light red, light green, light blue and so on.
The Professor slipped toward the side, coming to retake her seat at the desk. She pushed closed the file cabinet at the side, and drew open another, which contained the pokedex's, "You can come look if you'd like." Three of each color was positioned visibly in a line. When one was taken out, it was replaced with another from the back, in order to keep up the supply.

As he came around and peered inside the drawer, he found there weren't nearly as many colors as he'd feared. Thank goodness. If there had, his head probably would've exploded, and who really wanted to clean up that kind of mess!? Ralidea took a good hard look at the selection of pokedexes. There were still lots of colors even dispite the obvious limitations. He had to think about this logically for a moment, look at it from all angles before he ultimately made his final selection.
Red seemed a bit tacky, since it was the first pokedex color. But it also represented his first element-fire. If he was to choose one, he wouldn't want to choose the plain old red that every old person got when they'd first started their journies. If he wanted to carry qround a brick colored rectangle, he'd just carry around a brick. Light red, however, was painfully close to pink, and if there was one color he didn't want to be represented by, it was pink. Pink looked just fine on little pokemon and such, but not on him. So that ruled out all but dark red. He preferred to call it crimson himself. The color of blood-once it rusted in their precious oxygen-would not send a good message to people. He didn't particularly enjoy spilling blood, and he wasn't going to let that image become him! Red was out, unfortunately.
Next was green. He hated green, unless it was grass or trees. Anything in nature, really. He didn't like dark green, it reminded him too much of those nasty boiled zucchinis he was always forced to eat as a child. He didn't like light green, it was too 'techno' or 'neon'. And plain old green reminded him of...well, nothing, really. Either way, green would totally clash with his pokemon. How sad would someone who walks around waving the color representing the thing they're the best at beating up be!? Oh no, no, no, green was definitely out, even farther out then red.
Finally, he came to blue. He liked blue, it was a symbol of being calm and collected. He nibbled the corner of his lower lip-a nervous habit he'd picked up as a kid-as he eyed the three shades of the color. He must hurry, he didn't want to wait too much longer! Light blue was nice and cool. It reminded him of a calm lake on a hot summer's day. Unfortunately, its positive effect was also its downfall. He didn't want to carry around a lake in one pocket and fire in the other. Normal blue was okay, vibrant without hurting his eyes. But it was just so...plain. So, no normal blue, green, or red, no light colors, no dark red nor dark green. That only left dark blue. Dark blue was a calm, quiet color, close to black without being so...dismal. Like the plague. He smiled again as he made his descision.
"I would like a dark blue one, please!" he chirped merrily, satisfied with his choice.

Professor Storm inclined her head in a slight nod as Ralidea provided her with a selection at last, "Dark blue it is." She replied, reaching down to secure one of the requested color, and drawing it out. She pushed the filing cabinet drawer closed with her foot, and spun in her chair to face the new trainer, offering him his last necessary device for beginning his journey, "Here you are dear." She smiled, "And I believe with this, you're all set!"

Now Ralidea was as excited as could be. He was literally only moments away from meeting his new pokemon, not only that but he'd been informed of an egg he was to take care of! This day could not possibly get any better. Back to the present, he smiled and took his new pokedex with the utmost in elation, "Thank you so much!" he cheeped like a baby bird, admiring the little device. How fantastically bombastic! He must go edit his PC right away! He turned the deep blue device over in his hands a few times before looking back up at her, "I am truly grateful! Is that really all we need? I can just...start my journey?"

Ralidea gave a low bow, excitement simply pouring off of him, "Thank you so very much!" he exclaimed. With that, he turned and trotted out of the room. It was really happening! He was finally a pokemon trainer! There was honestly no time in his life he'd been so truly elated. It was time to begin his journey.
