With well rested pokemon, Leo entered the calm forest with Ponyta carrying him swiftly. He'd hope to encounter some wild pokemon as he'd feel that he need to train his Pokemon further in the hopes of challenging the gym leader. And he knew that he wasn't going in there unless he knew he had a fighting chance. Both Pokemon and trainer scanned the area around them, searching for wild pokemon to fight.
He could almost feel the movements of the forest, light filtered through the wind swain trees above his head and leaves lashed around wickedly as they were passed by. Leo could feel the battle Sakura forest held for him, waiting for his next move. WC: 123

Kari sighed, continuing on her walk. She had used a Full Heal on Scott to wake him up, just because she didn't really want to have to go all the way back to the Pokemon Center. Now the Trapinch walked next to her, and Shanouk, her new Slakoth, was asleep in his Pokeball.
The black haired female was about to give up on her search of something, anything, to do, when she spotted a male up ahead. He was wearing a hat and a jacket, and riding a Ponyta. Scott looked up at the trainer and his partner, and his intentions seemed suddenly clear to Kari.
"Oh please, Scott, don't do it," she whispered, kneeling down and trying to grab the Pokemon. For such a supposedly patient Pokemon, and for one that shouldn't move so fast, Scott was a quick little bugger. "Scott!" Kari was hissing at her Pokemon, trying to get him to listen to her, and trying to keep the person from spotting her, and him.
Scott, however, had other plans. The bold Ant Pit Pokemon was trundling forward, eyes gleaming. He was behind the Ponyta, which was not a safe place. Kari's first thought was that he was going to get kicked as he opened his mouth wide. "Oh Scott, please, please don't..." Scott attempted, as Kari had feared, to grip the Ponyta's left hind leg in his jaws. "Scott!" Now she didn't bother keeping her voice low.
He was going to have to out grow that whole "I'm going to eat you" thing he had going on. Maybe if he got a good kick to the head, or a boot to the head, it would straighten him out. Word Count: 282.

Things didn't exactly go as he'd planned. But something caught his eye. Leo dismounted and walked a few feet away from Ponyta who merely watched Leo do what he was doing. Leo walked over to a bush where he found a few berries. "Hey Ponyta, think the pokedex can tell us what these are?" Leo said with a laugh. He plucked one of the blue berries and examined it. It was very round, it had a tan spot on the top where it had been attached to the tree above. The tree, which was full of the blue ball-like berry, hung ever slightly to the side. It furthermost branches grazed the bush which caused a few of the berries to fall into the bush.
I think it's an oran berry, Leo recalled, before he heard a noise. Just a pokemon, he causally assumbed. Suddenly Ponyta felt that something was rush at him from behind. And the one thing you should never do around a horse is run up behind it, especially an over sized Ponyta. Spooked by a loud shout, Ponyta kicked out his firey hooves at an orange blob behind him with his back legs. The fire mostlikly burned whatever he had kicked as the spooked horses fire grew wildly.
"Ponyta calm down!" Leo told Ponyta, trying not to raise his voice at the frightened horse. "Shh... Shh...." He said calmly, patting Ponyta's neck. Leo looked over behind Ponyta to see what had spooked his friend. WC:264

Kari watched the male dismount the Ponyta as Scott went scrambling toward it. He was going to inspect the Oran berry bush. Kari hid her face as she saw the Ponyta spook, lashing out. She heard a thunk as Scott was knocked onto his back.
Kari's blue eyes snapped open, looking toward her over turned Pokemon. The boy was trying to calm down his Ponyta, and Scott was flailing on his back, stirring up dirt. This attempt at Sand-Attack was getting him covered in dirt, and wasn't getting him to his feet fast enough.
Scott wobbled to one side, back onto his back, to the other side, back on his back, and he flailed about for a few more seconds, finally getting to his feet. He stared at the fire type, head pounding and burning where the flames had struck him. Kari shook her head, standing up and giving a little cough, waving her hand. "Er, sorry about Scott. He's a little hot headed...Scott!" Just as she had said this, the Pokemon had decided, lo-and-behold, to try to Bite the Ponyta again. Word Count: 182.

Leo saw behind Ponyta an orange ant pokemon flailing about in the dirt. Whipping out his pokedex, Leo aimed it at the pokemon to find out what it was. "Trapinch, the Ant Pit pokemon. Trapinch are patient Pokémon; despite this, they are avid hunters. After building pits in sand, they patiently await for their prey to fall. Because Trapinch's head is so big, it finds getting upright if tipped onto its back difficult."
When the voice was done, Leo pocketed his Pokedex. He felt bad for the turned over Trapinch and before he had a a chance to go and help it, the pokemon got to it's feet a went for round 2. Quick on his feet, he wouldn't let the angered pokemon needlessly attack Ponyta, and moved in front of the Trapinch. Leo took the attack instead, he love for pokemon enabling him to let the Trapinch take his arm instead of Ponyta's legs. This upset Ponyta who whinnied at Leo with worry. "He just upset." Leo told Ponyta calmly.
With a small cringe from pain, Leo petted Trapinch soothingly, "It's alright little one, no one here will hurt you." Leo ignored the pain, then looked up when a women stepped out, apologizing for the Trapinch she called Scott for the previous attack on Ponyta.

Kari sighed, seeing the boy step between Scott and his Ponyta. That was very selfless of him, but, in her opinion, stupid. Scott let go of the boy's arm, backing up and glaring at the man. Kari sighed, hearing him tell Scott that no one was going to hurt him.
Scott didn't think that the trainer and his Pokemon would hurt him or Kari, he just didn't feel like having to deal with any other Pokemon, considering the fact that he thought that they where all below him and stupid.
Kari crossed her arms, staring at the Pokemon. Upset? If this was Scott upset, he'd be pretty mellow normally. Wait, this was Scott normally. Upset or angered, he'd be something fierce. Kari smiled slightly, remember why she liked Dragon types so much. "Sorry, sorry, Scott, come here," only now she didn't actually sound so upset. How could someone put themselves in harms way like that? If it would have been Scott being attacked, she would have either returned the male, or had him attack the offender.
Scott, meanwhile, stared up at the male, anger in his eyes. He wanted to battle, not stand here and chit chat, not have Kari ask him to come back. He wanted to bite and chew and gnaw and be a vicious Pokemon, so that he could evolve into something that was big and would be able to defend Kari against the stupid Pokemon, and people, of the world.
Kari sighed, looking back at the male. "I think that he wants to battle. He fought a Slakoth, but he put him to sleep, so he couldn't get much of a real fight. Would you mind battling with him?" Kari had her arms crossed, looking between Scott and the boy.
Scott looked between the two, and then tried to kick up dirt at the man standing between him and his target in Sand-Attack. Word Count: 317.

Leo watched the Trapinch's trainer look at him like what he did was stupid. This is why he disliked humans, they don't understand him or pokemon, and why it seemed he could only befriend pokemon. Leo stood and turned to Ponyta who licked Leo's wound with a worried expression. "I'm fine my friend." But Ponyta still watched the arm with sadness. He would have taken the hit, but his trainer was a kind soul who didn't needlessly endanger pokemon, pokemon before himself. That's how he'd always been after the day he'd been abandoned.
Leo turned back and noticed Trapinch was clearly angry. "I'm sorry Scott, I didn't mean to offend you. I'm sure you'd protect your trainer in the same way I protect my pokemon." Leo smiled with kind eyes, he could never be angry with a pokemon. Pain gripped Leo's arm but he merely winced and listened to the girl speak. She wished to battle. It would be his first against another trainer and Leo felt somewhat excited at the chance.
"I see, I'll battle your friend. Ponyta," he said taking a few steps back, " ready yourself for a battle." Ponyta turned to face the Trapinch. "My name is Leo, and if you don't mind, I'd like to make it a two on two battle." Ponyta had a flame in his eyes, angry for the surprise attack on him, and for the damage of Leo's arm. The fire of Ponyta's mane, his tail, his hooves, grew brighter and more intense. Ponyta reared up and whinnied challengingly, ready to take on the Trapinch.

Kari let out a thin breath, glad that the male had agreed. Wait. Two on two? Her only other Pokemon was Shanouk, and he was...okay, fine. "Sure, two on two sounds good to me," she plucked out Shanouk's Pokeball, tossing it through the air. The red light flashed, and out popped none other than the little Teddiursa. She blinked, almost shocked. She had grabbed Shanouk's Pokeball, not Ari's Pokeball. But Ari was the one who had popped out. Well, that was unexpected.
Scott was staring down the Ponyta when he felt something furry next to him. He turned his head, looking at Ari, and then his gaze grew furious. If those two touched a hair on her cute little head, they would pay. Word Count: 132

Leo watch the girl reach for another pokeball, tossing it forward to reveal another pokemon, a Teddiursa by definition of the pokedex. Leo was a bit confused, didn't she know what 2 on 2 mean't? Leo smiled, speaking calmly, "I'm sorry, but a 2 on 2 battle means a 1 on 1 battle and each trainer can use 2 pokemon. Your thinking of a double battle."

Two on two and a double battle where two different things? What? Kari's head tilted to one side, a blush spreading across her cheeks rapidly. She made a little o shape with her mouth, coughed, and quickly returned Ari.
As soon as the Teddiursa had been recalled, Scott relaxed just a little. His focus resharpened on the Ponyta quickly, and he narrowed his eyes just a bit before setting himself for a battle.
"Okay, now, Scott, use Sand-Attack!"
Her command held more confidence than she would have thought she had after her little slip up. She laced her hands behind her back, smiling slightly. Well, at least she had just made a slight fool of herself.
Scott nodded his large head at the command, turning around and kicking up the dirt with his hind legs. Blind the enemy first, and then attack. Good call on his trainer's part then. Word Count: 152.
