FAY • WATERSTONEPlay By: Madotsuki, Yume Nikki• Labels Do Not Define Me • Name: Fay Waterstone. Age: Fifteen. Gender: Female. Sexuality: Bisexual. Status: Civilian.
• On The Outside Looking In • Hair: Brown. Eyes: Brown. Scars/Markings: None that are significant. General Appearance:
Fay is a short girl, standing at a diminuitive five feet and two inches. Despite her unimpressive height, her frame is fairly robust for her size: her soft angles indicate that she is both well fed and fully mature. Likewise, she has very long legs and a comparatively short torso, making it obvious bthat she can't escape the gangliness of young adulthood even by refusing to grow.
Although she wears no makeup, it's clear from her appearance that she takes good care of herself. She is perpetually freshly scrubbed, her gleaming brown hair pulled into two loose braids, her skin clear and her nails and teeth neat and well-maintained. Her lack of attention to fashion or cosmetics does not appear to stem from a lack of pride in her appearance.
• There's More Than Meets The Eye • Likes: Adventure!, movies, especially horror, video games, especially horror, sweet things, the dark, travel, her nanna, Pokémon, all things macabre, challenges, et cetera. Dislikes: Having to wait, competition, when other people are unhappy, yellow, being bossed around. Strengths: Compassionate, a good listener, thoughtful, earnest. Weaknesses: Sulky, passive-aggressive, likes to have things her way, self-righteous. Personality:
Fay holds fast to her ideals. Her ethics may not be traditional, but she is faithful to them. She firmly believes, with very few exceptions, that everyone deserves love and forgiveness; to that end, she herself is an extremely loving, affectionate, devoted person. Her philosophy advocates absolute loyalty in exchange for absolute loyalty; to those people who have earned her friendship, she will give everything she can of herself to aid them.
That said, she is prone at times to fits of childishness; bouts of self-pity creep up on her from time to time, usually as a direct result of a spell of loneliness or sadness, and that can lead her to being difficult to get along with by being obstinant or snarky when she should be listening to the other person.
Fay loves to travel, and she aspires to have a Pokémon of her own one day. She is somewhat late in her life to begin training, but finding a partner to share her dreams and journeys with is the one thing that this very impatient girl doesn't mind waiting to do. When she meets her first Pokémon, she wants the relationship she has with it to be special.
• I Am What I Own • Items: Anything specific that they carry around with them? Pokemon:Sanguine the Sableye Female, Level 20 • How I Became Who I Am •
Family: Ophelia Waterstone, adoptive grandmother.
Eldritch and Ether, twin male Gengars who battled with Ophelia in her hey-day. They are now retired from the scene, and glad of it.
Sanguine is a newer addition to the family. She and Fay bonded very early on in Fay's life; now, Sanguine serves as a sort of guardian so that Fay may safely go out on her own. The two do not have a relationship like Pokémon and trainer; Fay defers to Sanguine almost as she would a respected older sister.
History:
Emily Black was seventeen and pregnant when her parents tossed her out of their house. It was a small town where old-fashioned ideals were upheld and your respectability within the community was everything; in that light, the owners of the small shop where she worked part-time during school refused to give her full-time work. With what money she had, she travelled to the nearest large city - Canalave, as fate dictated - and sought a living for herself.
What she found there was Ophelia Waterstone. Ophelia had been, in her youth, a formidable Pokémon trainer specializing in the Ghost type. Now, in her old age, she was an eccentric woman commited to squandering the Waterstone fortune so as to leave as little for her estranged scientist-turned-criminal son as possible. Emily found work with the old woman as a custodian for Waterstone House, the ancestral manor of the old trading family. As time went on, the two women became good friends.
It was into this strange family that Fay was born. Without knowing her father or maternal grandparents, the little girl came to rely on Ophelia as a parental figure almost as much as her mother. Others her age within the community regarded Ophelia with wariness at best and rumours of her being a child-eating witch at worst; there were whispers that Fay herself was kept as a sort of useful pet of the old witch's, serving as bait to lure other children into the Waterstone House so that Ophelia or her Pokémon could snatch them up.
Therefore, having no siblings or other children around to play with, Fay relied more heavily than ever on her mother and 'grandmother'. Her only playmates were Ophelia's Pokémon. Ghost-types do not typically good friends make; they were playful enough, granted, but Emily had some serious misgivings about the things they did to her daughter's head.
The girl was very susceptible to their dark mischief, even when it was not meant as such. Ophelia's Pokémon loved Fay; to show their affection, they protected her and crafted bizarre and sometimes unintentionally horrifying dreamscapes for her to traverse in her slumber. Yet, when Eldritch and Ether, Ophelia's twin Gengars, walked with Fay through her dreams, she found herself capable of a sort of lucidity that allowed her to turn the strange wonderland of her Ghost-wrought psyche into something that she could enjoy.
When Fay was thirteen, her mother died in a car crash.
It was that sudden. There was no leading up to the monumental event and no way to prepare for it. Emily's family had been small in her lifetime, but she had been well loved. Ophelia and Fay mourned Emily's passing each in their own way. For Ophelia, it meant locking up Waterstone House to set sail for the first time since her youth, legally adopting Fay at long last in the wake of her only parent's demise, and taking the girl to see the world.
They two, and Ophelia's Pokémon, have only just landed in the Star Region.
Other Characters: Min Stone, trainer - although I am giving her up as a character to start fresh with this one.
