”Are they named after me?”
”No. But you can say you’re named after them.”
”Really?” A short break.
”Is it because I’m beautiful?”
Kira laughed. ”Of course it is. Now come here would you?”
Sakura stopped looking up at the trees and galloped after her. She’d been very fascinated of the cherry blossom trees – especially when she’d found out they had the same name. In the first hours of their trip, Sakura had been clumsy and stumbled a bit around, but she was far better at keeping her balance now. The lab had been a pleasant place for her to be, but it was far better out in the open where the choices were uncountable. Kira stroke her soft neck. Somehow it felt strong even though Sakura only was in level 5. She knew Sakura could carry her on her back, but Kira wasn’t sure if the bond between them was strong enough to do that yet. Besides, she likes walking like this, and they weren’t in any hurry. They hadn’t been in the forest for a very long time, but they were already finding tracks of wild pokemon. Therefore, Kira preferred to be close to her partner. She was excited about the whole trainer-thing, but you could never know with a wild pokemon. Some of them just hid away when they saw you while others might attack. It was new for her to be alone like this – in the past she’d walked with her grandfather and his pokemon, but this felt different. Now she depended on her own – not to mention Sakura’s – skills.
Kira was then brought back by the feeling of Sakura’s muzzle on her shoulder and caressed the Ponyta again. They would do just fine. All they needed some small battles then they could both feel more secure about the whole thing. After all, this was just as new to Sakura as it was to her.

Among the forest known as the Sakura Forest, there was a subtle disturbance in the area. One, there was a person and a flaming horse walking around. But, you know, the other problem is much more of a deal. It was some real serious business, and you should let it be handled by the pros, because stuff is happening. You see, there was this plant. It wasn't just any plant though, it was better than a plant. No, this plant wasn't all big and resourceful and better than you. It was actually alive (You get my point). In fact, it was a Pokemon.
This Pokemon was quite glad to be alive. It was the cool kid on the block, and it reigned superior over all the other plants in his small clearing that WEREN'T Pokemon. Oh yeah, he was so much more cooler than those squares who couldn't even say their own name. Seriously. This thing was an Oddish, a grass/poison type Pokemon who thought this entire forest was under his control. In fact, he had even fashioned as sign out of grass that symbolized his dominance. It didn't have any words on it, but when you see those 3 connected leaves sticking out of the ground, you know you better get out! Thats the marking of Oddish and his gang of... well... plants.
Oddish was out of clearing at the current time, and he was lurking for someone or something to pick on. All honesty, it was looking to go collect tax-berries from the neighboring Sunflora. But all of a sudden it hears some talking, and it hadn't heard the talking ever before. Newcomers.. eh? Thought the odd Oddish. Oddish poked its head out of some tall grass and first noticed the Ponyta. That thing was scary, and the human was all the scarier. But like I said, the Oddish was more of a disturbance, and it thought it was far more intimidating.
Oddish stepped out from the tall grass and looked at the trainer. Oddish had to think of something bold to do, something the real pros would do. Well, Oddish sort of... wasn't cool, and knew very little about real combat. Oddish was really one of the only things that stood up for itself in this area (then again it is Sakura Forest, a place full of pretty plants) so it didn't really have to fight anything. The Oddish opened his eyes widely and shot a few green orbs at the enemy, which would hopefully leech energy from the Ponyta, and complete the Absorb when it were to do so/hopefully do so. The orbs would then heal the already full health Oddish, which was actually not of any use.
OOC: Excuse me for the terribly written post above, I'm just bored, and uh... had some fun typing this up. WC- 492

Kira heard a rustle and turned around. The source of the noise was a little grass pokemon who looked at them like it wasn’t sure of what to do. Kira tilted her head by the sight of the little pokemon and took her Pokedex up from her pocket and held it in the direction of the Odish. “Odish. It often plants its root feet in the ground during the day and sows seeds as it walks about at night.” Then she put it down in her pocket again. “He seems like being a stra-” But before Kira could finish her sentence, the Odish had thrown some green orbs in Sakura’s direction. ”Sakura, dodge it!” Sakura jumped away from the orbs just as they were about to hit her. Sakura snorted angrily. Even though the grass attack wouldn’t have hurt her that much, she’d already been provoked enough to attack the Odish if Kira would let her. ”Okay Sakura, it seems like we aren’t going any further for now. Let’s battle this little one if that’s what he wants,” she said, dropping her bag on the ground.
The Ponyta neighed in acceptance. The Odish had irritated it her enough already, and she didn’t want it to think it could just attack her without being challenged. ”Sakura, use tackle!” Kira shouted and the Ponyta galloped forward against the grass pokemon who was pretty much smaller than herself. Kira felt like this battle wouldn’t be hard to win since they had a type-advantage. It could be that Sakura didn’t know any fire-moves yet, but the Odish’ grass-attacks would hopefully not hurt her too much. All in all, this seemed to be a good battle to start with.

Oddish was quite disappointing as the move in which it had launched was dodged by the agile Ponyta. Oddish hadn't really been contested, but it figured since its amazing strength and all, it could one shot this thing. It just needed a hit. However, this assumption was terribly wrong and if anything would only further lead into Oddish's downfall. Oddish then got out of its little thought and looked up to the Ponyta, who was now very close to the tiny plant Pokemon. This was new, too. Oddish thought this fight would be a bit more ranged, but this Ponyta was getting, in his thoughts; All up in his grill.
Oddish was destroyed by the Tackle attack, and fell back to the ground. Oddish rolled back to its feet as the move had done some heavy damage. Oddish thought that such a success had to be some sort of fluke, and it wouldn't last that long at all hopefully. Oddish launched a flurry of green orbs at the enemy once more. This time the move was at a closer range and if they did hit they would indeed heal the Oddish a little bit.

Kira was quite surprised when the Oddish didn’t move as Sakura galloped in his direction. She’d thought the little pokemon would be terrified of her since she was so much bigger than him – and of the fact that she was a firepokemon. But she couldn’t help but feeling slightly victorious as Sakura hit the Oddish with her Tackle. “Well done Sakura! We’ll get this little fellow,” she cheered. Sakura snorted down to the Oddish, thinking he now would leave her alone, but then saw the green orbs coming from him again. ”Sakura, look out, dodge them!” Kira shouted. But it was too late. Sakura was closer to the Oddish this time, so she wasn’t fast enough to dodge the green orbs that hit her, took some of her energy, and came back to the wild pokemon who started to heal.
The Ponyta shook her head wildly. The Oddish’ Absorb-attack had caused some damage on her, but it wasn’t enough to scare her away. She didn’t want the Oddish to win over her since that would be a huge embarrassment toward her as a fire-type pokemon. Now, she just waited for her trainer to tell her what to do so she hopefully could knock the Oddish out.
”Sakura, use Tail Whip!” Kira shouted to her. Sakura wagged her flaming tail, the attack supposing to make the wild pokemon less wary in the hope to lower its defense. Kira could see that Sakura’s former Tackle had caused some damage on the Oddish, so she hoped that next time she used Tackle it would leave the wild grasspokemon even more exhausted. ”Sakura now, use Tackle!” Kira cried out and Sakura immediately leapt forward – slower than before because of less energy thanks to the Oddish – in the hope to inflect some more damage on the little pokemon, who was a little pest in her eyes.

Oddish watched as the green orbs leeched onto the enemy and stole a very small fraction of the enemy Pokemon's health. As the green orbs came back to Oddish, they revived a small bit of health, about half of what they had taken. It wasn't really a lot, but Oddish wanted to be in the best condition possible by the end of this match. Oddish had to keep its head held high, and didn't want its faith to waver. It wanted to win this battle for all of its buddies back in the... clearing. Oddish had a reputation (sort of) to live up to.
Oddish was quickly effected by the Tail Whip move and had its defense lowered by a bit. The move made quite a bit of a difference, especially in the amount of rage that Oddish was stockpiling. Oddish then was hit yet again by the Tackle attack. Now things weren't looking too well. The absorb hadn't done near as much damage as the Oddish was hoping it would do, and that attack was more brutal than the last. Oddish really didn't have any diversity at all to win this battle. Oddish jumped over to the side, into a bush. Oddish rustled around in the bushes, moving between the bushes swiftly. This Oddish knew the area very well. Sudenly, Oddish bursted from one of the bushes, covered in leaves and such. Oddish launched yet another flurry of green orbs at the Ponyta, in mid-air.

The Tail Whip is actually working, Kira thought happily as the Oddish seemed to lower his defense a bit. Maybe it wasn’t much, but it was enough to let the wild pokemon’s guard down so Sakura could strike. Even though she was weaker than before, this time, the Tackle-attack seemed to inflect even more damage on him than the one before. They were really about to win this battle. Or so it seemed at that moment. Because then, when the Oddish came back on his feet (or roots), he jumped into a bush. Aw no, we can’t let him escape! Kira thought. It would really be a downer for both Sakura and her if he just ran away. Then she realized that the Oddish wasn’t escaping from the battle – he was using the forest to his advantage. Of course! All the bushes are perfect for him to hide in.
”Sakura, be careful. He might jump up from behind you,” Kira warned her. Sakura was looking around her, sometimes seeing some bushes moving as the Oddish ran by, but it was hard to tell where – and when – he would attack. He knew this place much better than them, so he could easily use the forest to his advantage. And then he attacked. He attacked from Sakura’s left side where he threw more green orbs in her direction. ”Sakura, dodge the orbs and attack him quickly with Tackle now when he can’t dodge you!” Sakura leapt away from the Absorb-attack but a few orbs still hit her. Just as they shone on her white body, trying to steal her health, she jumped in the air with as much effort she could, launching herself in the “flying” Oddish’ direction to attack him head on.

Oddish had thought that its little bush strategy had really paid off, for as the orbs were launched at the enemy only a few were dodged. At the same time, only a few hit. Oddish then had the orbs that hit come back to him as he landed on the ground. The orbs replenished an even smaller amount of health that time. However, Oddish had to take any bit of health it could take. It had used the forestry as its advantage once, using it once or twice more would be useless. Oddish figured that the strategy was worthless now.
Honestly, Oddish now made the figuration that anything the Pokemon did would make it lose. But it had to fight to its maximum potential, not just run away like some sort of low level Abra. (Alright, terrible reference to the game.) Oddish was hit by the Tackle just as it had landed, and skidded backwards. Oddish got up slowly, damaged heavily by the attack once more. The odds were piling up against the Oddish (Wow, that sounded ridiculous) and it really didn't know what to do. Oddish decided to do what any Level 4 Oddish would do. Absorb.
Oddish launched yet another flurry of green orbs at the enemy, hoping to absorb just a little bit of health. This move was slower moving than the rest, showing Oddish's lack of remaining health. One or two more hits to this Pokemon would end it for good, all Oddish could do was try to postpone this.

As Oddish landed on the ground, Sakura hit him with her Tackle. By then, he’d already healed a little bit due to the orbs which had hit Sakura. And his attacks were showing now. Sakura breathed harder than before, and it wouldn’t take long before her legs would start to shake – and not only because she was getting tired, but also because the Oddish was irritating her more and more for each of his little moves he showed off. ”Come on Sakura, keep on, we almost got him!” Kira said to cheer her Ponyta up. And then the Oddish attacked again. He’d slowly gotten up on his feet and threw more orbs at Sakura.
”Sakura dodge them! Kira shouted. She knew that even the least energy the Oddish could get from Sakura would count, and the battle would only be longer the more energy he absorbed – which would mean that Sakura also would get more exhausted. And that was a thought Kira wasn’t happy about. They had to do well in their first battle, they just had to. And this time, Sakura succeeded to fully dodge the attack. None of the orbs hit her as she leapt to the side. But even though they hadn’t hit her, you could see that she was tired too, though not as much as the Oddish. ”Come on Sakura, you can do it! He’s weak now, so attack him with another Tackle-attack!” The Ponyta neighed and ran forward as fast as she could manage after the absorb-attacks to strike the enemy once again.

Oddish was disappointed as the Absorb attack had missed the enemy and the orbs had just gone off into space as missed moves do. Oddish really needed that extra burst of energy it would have gotten from that move, and without it, the Pokemon did not know what to do. Oddish looked forward with doubt at this time, which was very different from the Oddish we saw at the beginning of this fight. Oddish had learned something today, not to underestimate. However, there was something Oddish had yet to learn. How to lose.
Oddish was hit by the Tackle attack and fell down to the ground. This time the Oddish showed no sign of moving or even any sign of life for a while. After a moment a grunt could be heard. Oddish focused its energy on getting up. Oddish showed its face, but fell back onto it a moment afterward. Oddish did the same again, but this time as it fell it launched a single green orb at the enemy. If this hit it would do just about nothing, and would restore even less. Oddish just.. didn't know how to lose.

Both Kira and Sakura watched the Oddish very intense as he was hit by Sakura’s Tackle-attack. Was it over now? Or would the battle continue? Would the Oddish flee if he still could stand? Kira hoped she would be able to catch this Oddish. Maybe she would have him on his team and maybe she wouldn’t. Either way, he was a stubborn little one who was good to have on your side. She could take a pokeball from her belt and throw it at him right now, but there still was a chance that the Oddish would break out of it, and therefore she waited. Because if he broke out, the chances of him running away were high, and she didn’t want Sakura’s efforts to be wasted like that.
But the Oddish wasn’t defeated yet. Kira was quite surprised, because he’d already endured many attacks so Kira had almost been sure that he would have fainted by now. Sakura was just as surprised – if not more. She clenched her teeth hard together and wasn’t able to speak. The Oddish tried to get up but fell down on his face. He had as good as lost already, but it was clear that he didn’t want to give up. Then, as he came up again, he threw a single orb in direction of Sakura. It had been such a surprise to both pokemon and trainer that Sakura actually didn’t dodge it. The orb took some of the Ponyta’s energy and returned to the Oddish. Kira shook her head, this just had no end. It was time to give that Oddish a huge blow so it would lay still in the grass. ”Sakura, attack the Oddish again! He’s almost defeated so give him all you got, go, Tackle him!” she shouted. At first, Sakura focused on gaining energy. She scraped in the grass with her hooves as an angry bull ready to charge something red. She was far more irritated on this little runt (root?) than Kira was. And then she attacked. She galloped forward and lowered her head – ready to give the Oddish a hard blow.

The Oddish had nothing more to do, its efforts were useless at this point. Yet it tried, and tried. Literally, it was simply just laying there just about lifeless. The little orb returned, and healed a very very very small fraction of Oddish's health. Oddish, who couldn't even look forward anymore onto the battle, didn't even know the orb had healed it. But it could hear. It was a lot like hearing the sound of death. The Ponyta's hooves clacking against the ground... Oddish knew that this was end. Oh wait. This is Pokemon, the Oddish couldn't die. But, you get my point. The Oddish was hit by the tackle and flew in the air , landing 3 feet from where it was hit. The Oddish lost consciousness at the time in which it was hit, which is good because it fell flat on its face when it got shot into the air. (Just saying.)

Speechless, Kira watched the scenery before her. The Oddish flew about three meters in the air and landed with its face down. And it didn’t move anymore, it had fainted. It took a few seconds before Kira really realized they’d won the fight. ”You did it Sakura! We got him now!” Kira exclaimed and ran to her pokemon’s side where she gave her Ponyta a hug. ”We won our first battle against a wild pokemon, if we keep on like this, nothing can stop us!” Sakura nipped her in her black hair in agreement. They could do this – with training, lots of training. But both of them knew they would become a great team.
Kira turned around and went to the Oddish while Sakura watched her closely. If the Oddish suddenly should attack, she would be ready to fight back – and make sure it wouldn’t arise again. But nothing happened. Kira took a pokeball from her belt and threw it at the fainted Oddish. The Oddish disappeared in a red light and came into the pokeball which started to move from one side to the other. All that was back was to have it stay in the ball.

The small little Oddish was hit by the Pokeball and was suddenly surrounded in a flash of light. The light captured the Oddish and brought it into the pokeball. Inside the pokeball rocked as it always did, but fairly lightly since Oddish could not fight back against the pokeball in its fainted state. Suddenly the Pokeball stopped rocking and let out a ping, signifying the capture of the Oddish in the capture device.

Even though she knew the Oddish had already fainted due to Sakura’s attacks, Kira waited in excitement for the pokeball to stop moving. It only took a few seconds but it definitely felt as longer. After all, this was the first pokemon she (hopefully) would catch in the wild and it would without doubt be a very victorious round if she got this little fighter on her team.
When the pokeball stopped moving a wide smile appeared on her lips. ”We did it Sakura, you were amazing!” She went to the pokeball and took it up in her hand. She wasn’t sure if she wanted the Oddish to be a permanent part of her team, but it would be good to train it for a while to make it stronger than level 4. She could always replace him later on if she wanted to. ”Now let’s go to the Pokecenter in Stormcloud City. Both of you need good time to rest after this battle.” With that, she put Oddish’ pokeball onto her belt where it became as small as a marble. Then she took forth Sakura’s pokeball. Kira knew the Ponyta preferred to walk beside her, but right now, the pokeball was met with joy in the firepokemon’s eyes. When Sakura was resting safely in her pokeball, Kira began to walk toward Stormcloud City.
