Originally, Janessa had only returned to Stormcloud City to heal her Pokemon and rest her tired, sore feet. She had been planning on returning to Crystal Lake for a bit of training. But as she traveled through the city, on her way back out to Crystal Lake, she spotted the Gym. She stopped and gazed thoughtfully at the big building. She blinked, and then a smile slowly crept onto her face. What was really stopping her from challenging the Gym? Fear of failure? Lack of confidence? Some other insecurity?
Janessa shook her head as her gradually appearing smile turned into a full-blown grin. Why not challenge the Gym now? Even if she lost, it would still be a fantastic way to train her Pokemon. Much better than duking it out with the wild Pokemon on the various routes of Star Region.
And so, her mind was made up.
Taking large, excited steps, Janessa quickly made her way to the Gym doors. That ridiculous grin was still plastered all over her face as she swung open one of the doors and let herself in.
She blinked rapidly as her eyes adjusted to the different lighting. Her mind was racing as she scanned the scene, her eyes flitting back and forth as she tried to take everything in quickly.
"Hello!" Janessa called out as her crazy grin faded into a look of curiosity. "I'm he..." She started to speak, but got distracted halfway through her sentence. She gazed around for a moment longer, lost in thought, and then snapped out of it. "Oh! I'm here to challenge the gym leader." She stated, taking a few steps further into the Gym.
(...Hello. :3)

Maybe I shouldn't be singing this song? Ranting and raving and carrying on? Maybe they're right when they tell me I'm wrong.....? ooc. I've taken over as the gym leader for Stormcloud city so have replied here. If you don't want to continue this thread though, just let me know.
The gym was much darker than it was outside but as Janessa took a step into the building, the lights began to flicker and hum, sparking to life illuminating the battle stage before her. The room by large was rather unimpressive. But it was a stage for battling it, it didn't really need to be anything fancy? From where Janessa stood at the door there descended a small set of steps which lead onto the battlefield, which was essentially a wide open field with a dirt and earth floor. Slightly off centre in the field of earth was a small circular pond, not particularly deep and only around 10m in total diameter. At the opposite end of the gym hall, directly in front of the steps where Janessa stood, were another set of steps that rose up to a small platform, on which stood a rather nice comfortable looking black armchair. And lounging on the arm chair, sitting with her legs hanging over one of the arms, back to the other, was a young blonde haired woman. Stormcloud City's gym leader.
It was almost a strain for the girl to look up from the book she had balancing on her knees and she done so with a long groan of disdain. The challenges of her gym had been lacking lately, and the few she had received were insignificant and she defeated with ease. She was getting tired and almost bored. Oh what a chore it was to be better than everyone else. Grudgingly, she folded the book, propping it against the chair leg as she stood up. The young woman stood in front of her throne, arms folder across her chest with a stern look on her face. "So you want to challenge my gym?" Dinah questioned, her eyes narrowed in a questioning glare. "Then step forward onto the floor if you think you're ready..." she invited, a cocky smile gracing her face. She waved her hand in front of her, signalling for the challenger to descend to the ringside. "I am Dinah Tempest Gale" she introduced herself as, a deep sense of pride in her voice. "I have two questions for you. What is your name? And would you prefer to be beaten in a double battle, or in two single battles?". The air of over confidence was common in Dinah's attitude but she had great trust and belief in her two gym pokemon that they would not let her down. ......naaaah!

(Hey! :D No way am I gonna ditch this thread. I've been waiting for this gym battle for a long time... Thanks for taking over! You're awesome!)
Janessa blinked until her eyes had fully adjusted to the light. She stared at her surroundings for just a moment, until she heard the voice of a young lady. She turned towards the sound and easily spotted the beautiful blonde gym leader. She took a few steps toward her, and then stopped and merely listened to the leader's words. She had an eager and excited look on her face.
Janessa was far from offended or irked by Dinah's cocky personality. Perhaps if Janessa had more of an ego, she would have been bothered, but as it was, she knew just about where she stood in regards to her Pokemon training ability. She wasn't too shabby, but she definitely had a long way to go.
"I've never actually tried a double battle..." Janessa mused after Dinah had presented her with her options, "I guess now is as good a time as any to try, though! Let's go with a double." She decided as she stepped down to the ringside that Dinah had gestured to.

Maybe I shouldn't be singing this song? Ranting and raving and carrying on? Maybe they're right when they tell me I'm wrong.....? "A good choice" smiled the gym leader. Dinah began to explain all the administrative details of the battle, as much as she hated it, she would rather just jump into the fray. "We will battle with two pokemon at a time. Only the challenger is allowed to switch out pokemon during the battle or fainting.". The conditions were designed to make the battle a little bit easier for the trainer, but it still wasn't going to be a walk in the park, that was for sure. ""Winning this battle will secure you the Stormcloud badge, a TM for your personal use and a cash prize, of up to $1500 dollars - depending on how well you do"". The prizes gave the trainers more incentive to put all their effort into the battle.
Dinah pulled two pokeballs from the pockets of her dress and tossed them into the ring. The first pokeball landed with a plop! in the middle of the pond. Bursting open, a flash of red light began to swirl in the water, taking on the form of her first pokemon she would send into battle. Once released, the pokeball bounced back to the trainers hand. In the water, the little pokemon stirred, peering up at her opponent with wide eyes. "Chooouuuu!" she called sweetly. "Chiiinnnn Chooouuuu!".
The second pokeball landed on the first, bursting open with a flash and a sweet baa call. The red energy formed into the fluffly body of a sheep. Her tail swished back and forth happily, wide eyes starring at Janessa. "Marrreeeeeeeeeeeeep!" she baa-ed, little feet shuffling in the dirt, excited to get a battle. "Select your pokemon."
