This was the first time Nes had had the pleasure of attending the Star festival. In her youth, she used to attend festivals every year in her native Cerulean city of the Kanto region. That was mostly because if her family hadn't sponsored some sort of event, they had organised the whole thing. As she grew older, most of her time was spent doing the actual organizing rather than enjoying the festivities so it was a nice change to be able to sit back, relax, have a drink or two with nothing to worry about.
Having made her way down the pier, Nes had decided to settle down in the club. There wasn't any rush to have a go on any of the games and stalls. They didn't have the same allure as they did when she was a child so she slipped past them, leaving the children to play. Perhaps she would have a go on one or two things on her way back. The woman slipped into the bar without problem. At this time, early in the evening, it was reasonably quiet and it would be a good few hours more until all the party-goers arrived. Handing over some loose change, she ordered herself a midori and lemonade before taking a seat outside on the patio. The evening was beautiful, the sun was just beginning to set on the horizon of the Freshia sea. The sky was a light with a blaze of reds, yellows and oranges and she was more than content to sit in the latent heat, sipping her melon liqueur.
It wasn't that she was slacking, she was just having a night off. There had been little word of specific missions from the Order and she had finished all the projects she had immediately to hand. There was nothing that needed immediate attention so an evening off to enjoy a few drinks wasn't too much to ask, was it? As she sipped her drink, her mind wandered to the other order members. There were very few of them she had actually met. What were they doing right now? Did they have missions that she didn't? Were any of them at the festival too? An excuse of a mission used to cover for a little break and a good night out.

((Well, if Cid isn't going to have you, I'll see how it goes! )) After having a... harrowing experience with another 'lady', he was surprised to see a familiar face out on the dance floor. The music was deplorable, but it was at least a social gathering. He took a seat not far from Wednesday, ordering Mocchi ice cream and a scotch. He knew he was incognito, but also knew how intelligent that one Toad was. The Pikachu on his shoulder tugged on his collar and pointed at something on the menu. "Well, perhaps a reward for your heroic stand-up against that wench should be rewarded. Some ice cream for you as well!"The Pikachu coo'ed and hugged the arm of his elegant trainer. Yes, he could be stern and mean, but he was so much cooler than his last trainer! Without his eye-patch and his hair down, he would make a dead ringer for a cousin or a distant relative of the Emperor. In the dim light of the club, however, to even think he was the Emperor would be a far stretch... after all, why would he be in a club?

Wednesday was beginning to tire. In truth, she had been expecting someone but as the night drew on, the music began to play and the dance floor filled up, there was no sight of him. She scolded herself mentally for expecting him...almost wishing him to turn up. It was almost childish to expect that a leader of the Order would actually meet up with her. There was nothing undesirable about her, she felt, an attractive, strong willed woman of a prominent heritage but to him she was probably nothing more than another toad in his house. A boring toad who filed paperwork all day. Sighing, the woman knocked back the rest of her midori and lemonade and joining the glass with the empties that had began to pile up on her table.
Dull eyes scanned the outdoor scene. There were many people dancing, having a good time, sitting around at tables enjoying a meal and drink while she sat alone at a table, drowning a loneliness with melon flavoured alcohol. Almost giving up, she shuffled in her seat ready to leave as she eyes followed the waitress carrying a dress of desserts to a gentleman a few tables down. It was one of Wednesday's bad habits. In any sort of restaurant or eatery, as soon as any sort of food was brought out, she found herself staring at in, trying to see what everyone else had ordered. Focussing on the gentleman, there was something oddly familiar about the man, something she couldn't quite place but he carried himself with an air of importance.
Nudging Tak gently with her foot, Nes stood up from her seat. The skorupi awoke, have been curled up contently sleeping at his master's feet. He followed at her heels as approached Augustine's table. "I couldn't help but noticing your taste in desserts. I have only known one other man who had a soft spot for Mocchi" she said, calmly to acknowledge who he was. If he wasn't, then it was a simple enough statement and she would leave the man in peace. "Would you care for some company? The next rounds on me" she offered. With her prior rejection, she was not expecting anything from him, he could simply dismiss her and she would be content to go on her away, affirming her beliefs that she was meant to work alone.

((Mocchi Ice Cream is the own... it's like gummy bear, only ice cream!))
His brows were raised. He wasn't expecting the Mocchi to be the thing which would give him away. The Pikachu hadn't met the lady before, so he wagged his tail before giving a smile and a flourished bow... well, as flourished as a Pikachu could give on someone's shoulder. He plopped himself down on the stool to Augustine's other side. He leaned over the counter as improperly as he could, relishing in being a place where protocol was not demanded.
Yes, it had its perks, but there was a fine line between protocol and proper.
"Your recon skills are impressive. That is a secret kept by the chefs. Dare I ask what you bribed them with to get that one? I do not believe I introduced myself to you the last time we met... Augustine, at your service, my lady."
If her recon was that good, she would also know that his middle name was Augustine. Often times, since the name "Claudius Sovereign" went back seven generations, nobility close to the family would refer to the 'Claudius' as 'Claudius Augustine' (for the current one). It didn't matter much since he was now the only Claudius around, so it wouldn't be that well known of a fact save for his childhood.
"I have been on my own around here lately. I have needed to build a new team in order to earn respect in this land as a trainer. In the case that the rumor mill has not quite gotten that far, yes, it is true that Opus and I ran into a trained Charizard with enough firepower to blister his hide. He was not defeated... but we face much stronger enemies than anticipated. This little fellow here is the first Imperial Pokemon not to have a pedigree."
"Piiiikaaa!"
The Pikachu waved hello to Nes as his first shot of scotch arrived. They were still preparing the Mocchi balls, so he started to unwind with a sip.
"Well balanced and well-mannered, that one. He will do well! Has Cid been keeping you busy, or is he trying to solo his operation again?"

The woman's lips curled into a hint of a smile at the almost comical surprised eyebrows. His disguise was good. Top notch in fact and had someone not known about his ice cream fetish, they probably wouldn't have thought twice and walked past. But otherwise, a noble man, in a club, ordering mocchi icecream was a little suspicious provided you knew what you were looking for. Lucky she was working for him, no?
Her eyes drifted to the yellow mouse on his shoulder. Hands clasped in front of her, she smiled and lent her head forward in a polite bow back to the pikachu. The pokemon seemed happy, blissfully unaware of the politics and power struggle going on around him. Lucky fellow. Pulling out the next chair along, she sat next to Augustine as Tak crawled onto her lap. "Thank you, m'lord. But your chefs kept your secret well. I do not doubt my ability to get information from them if I had to; by what methods I don't feel need to be mentioned but there was another option available this time" she explained. It would have been easy to bribe the chefs with wealth, days off (falsifying documents was a particular skill of this young lady) or other favours. "A particular cousin of his lordship equally has a fondness for ice cream. As difficult as she is to deal with, if one is willing to sacrifice a great deal of time, they can pick up a fact or two.". Taxing as it was to spend time with Lady Helfire, second cousin somewhere down the line to Emperor Claudius, after copious amounts of alcohol and being hit on, Wednesday had gathered a few useful snippets of information.
Nes waved back to the pikachu. Tak perked up at the sight of mouse pokemon, cocking his head back and forth, clearly amused by its friendliness. "He certainly has a lot of potential" she agreed as Augustine explained his plans and new pokemon. "I have been surprised by some of the trainers in this region. I had battled a trainer not long ago, whose Seedot was particularly impressive - much more than I had imagined so.". She had the unfortunate pleasure of losing a battle to another trainer; though to begin with the pokemon was a few levels higher than her Skorupi so the little poison pokemon had put up a good fight. "I don't believe you have met my partner..." At this Skorupi crawled into full view, peering up at the emperor before scuttling over to sit himself next to the Pikachu. "I was on my way to collect him the last time we met."
Attracting over a waitress, she ordered herself another midori and lemonade, sipping it gently as he asked about Cid. Part of her panged, reminded about the fact he did not show up to meet her. "To be honest, I was meant to be meeting Lord Wolfe this evening. Though the plans were not set in stone, the invitation was there for him but I assume he has more pressing manners to attend to. I cannot say I have spoken to him since the last meeting."

He laughed when his cousin was mentioned. He was playing his own cousin, which he could pass off as her brother, so the connection wouldn't be so obvious. The Skorupi was cute in his own way, knowing he'd be a fierce one when he evolved. He waved a little to the other little one as he had a seat next to his own.
"She was the one who got me hooked on the stuff. We were on another one of our 'family dates' when we snuck out into the market to get some 'common food'. She was wonton, but it allowed her some freedoms."
He took another sip of his scotch as the ice cream arrived the cute Pikachu coo'ed and rubbed it's little paws together at the stash of round ice cream balls in many colors. Augustine cleared his throat at the Pikachu, causing it to pause.
"Mind your manners, little one."
It was almost clockwork how the two of them placed the napkin in respective areas. Augustine put his on his lap when the Pikachu put his in front of his bowl. The Pikachu had his own little two-pronged fork which he held in the middle, tilting it back and forth to get it into its mouth. He even remembered to chew with his mouth closed! He stuck the fork in one of his balls and offered it to Skorupi for the next bite with an inquisitive "Pika?"
"Good. Where was I. Ah, yes... my cousin."
He lowered his voice, telling the real story as Claudius. Deep down he had a wish that he could just talk to someone without being the 'great and mighty Emperor' for a change.
"Father decided she was too wonton to marry us... and quite frankly, she is a woman who knows how to dance the line. She deserves to be free because she manages to not dirty her name when she has her fun. Sure a few drinks, but she has yet to do anything foolish. I could never control myself if I let too much freedom tempt me. She has a will. I am currently playing my cousin, a duke to the family, so I can still say I got it from her."
He took a pair of chopsticks and began eating his own ice cream with his scotch. He seemed to relax more and more around this woman, having a feeling he could trust her not to abuse the information. He kept his tones hushed as he spoke.
"As for Lord Malaise, he recieved a very complicated mission. It does not surprise me. Still, after a recent failure he is likely in an 'if you want something done right, you do it yourself'' mentality. It will be good of you to seek him out."

"I do not doubt your story for a second, for the one evening I have spent with her, she seems to be a woman who pays little attention to the boundaries for something they desire and that is something I have to admire in someone". Violet eyes followed the ice cream as the waitress brought it over. It certainly did look appealing in so many vivid colours. "I can't say I have ever tried mocchi myself." she added, distracted by the desert for a moment. Not that she was asking for a bite or anything as forward, merely pointing out she never had. Perhaps surprising, she was partial to strawberry herself. What caught her attention more was the discipline of Pikachu. The pair shared such a precision and synchronisation, a bond strengthened to such a degree, one she had rarely seen in a trainer and his pokemon and something she could only dream of achieving between her and Tak. Unfortunately her pokemon had been completely enticed by ice cream. The skorupi did make his best efforts to please Wednesday, remain loyal and follow orders but his attempts could easily be seen as lackadaisical when he was clearly more interested in some sort of fun - shown by his attempts to scuttle closer the Pikachu's bowl in hopes of scoring a small ball for himself.
Sipping more of her own drink, she thought about Cid. It would do good to find him (minus the slight grudge she bore from being stood up so to speak). The only other member of Malaise she had the unfortunate pleasure of running into was the blonde Kururugi kid, whom she possessed no patience for. "I shall seek him out when I return, I'm sure he could use some assistance after a failure." she agreed. it would be good to finally do something and if there was a problem, you could count on her to do her best to resolve it as soon as possible. Failure was not an option. Popping her glass back down on the table, she could feel her foot wiggling subconsciously back and forth to the music of the club. She had barely been aware she was doing it either but her head rolled subtly side to side with the tunes. "I hope this does not sound too forward, but does Augustine dance?" ---------------------------------------------------------------- Status: Complete. Dance with me? Augustine leaned back as he was momentarily distracted by Pikachu and Skorupi sharing a couple of balls of mocchi. The Pikachu offered the vanilla one over to the hard-shelled Pokemon on the end of his fork with a smile. After the comment on his cousin, however, he paused to try and find the right words.
"Right... however if we were to wed, if something happened to me, her fun days would be over. I could never do that to her. I would never see that free heart of hers chained by ruling the entire country. I would need a lady that liked structure without letting it her rule her."
He took a long draw from his scotch, starting to realized he was getting a little too relaxed from the fine drink. He raised his brows and pushed the drink away from him, letting himself settle before indulging in the alcohol. He took one of the balls of mocchi and ate one more before offering Wednesday one of the last three. A vanilla and two strawberry.
And then she asked him to dance.
His face actually turned from regal to sheepish as his lack of dancing skills was a secret even his cousin didn't know. Sir Vigilance had to psychicly possess his body in order to give him the proper dancing skills to get through a ball.
"Well... this music is not what he is used to. But..."
Ah what the hell? He could blame it on the scotch.
"Perhaps if a finer contemporary lady such as yourself could educate him on the local practices, it would be quite the learning experience. I need to step away from this drink, as I am entered in the tournament later today. Too much indulgence, and my skills will be brought down a notch."
He rose from his bar stool and offered a hand to Wednesday to be led to the dance floor.
"Little one, watch the last of the ice cream for us."
"Piiiiikaaaaa! <3"
The Pikachu winked as he crooned in a sing-songy tone, teasing his trainer for flirting with the girl. Yeah, he was a noble snob, but he was still a guy...

"I can understand your feelings. If someone is lucky enough to have such carefree feelings of love, then they shouldn't have to be tied down to a marriage where a love and a passion plays no role. My family shared very much the same views. I have no doubt my parents love each other, that much is evident but their love does not rule them and comes second to their duties in running the family and business. Blinded by a love they would not have achieved and maintained what they have." Wednesday tried to explain her understanding, though perhaps not being able to express herself as she would have liked. "I beg you do not misunderstand me. If I were to find a love, I would not disregard those feelings but equally I could not leave everything I have worked towards my entire life, the people who have depended on everything I have done. For someone who can harbor such free will and spirit as your cousin shouldn't be tied down to something that neither she needs or wants, or the people of the empire depend. I admire her greatly for what she can do but it is something I do not feel I could myself. I have never been close to marriage myself but I do not feel I could manage such an arrangement purely on love nor purely on business (as much as my parents wish for me to marry someone for the sake of our family wealth). Comprises have to be made but such is life." she finished. She had not intended it to be so deep and meaningful. They were merely discussing his cousin and yet she had probably bored him with her views and opinions. At least the heavy stuff was out of the way for now. "I must apologise, I never meant to be so insightful and I hope I haven't bored you." Or scared you away she thought to herself.
She was almost thankful for the light hearted, familiar though almost unbearably country, tune she heard blaring from the dance floor to dispel the serious mood. "I will apologise for the cheesiness of this dance before we start. But it does seem to be a particular favourite of party occasions such as these. If you find no enjoyment in it, then consider it useful in blending in." Wednesday explained. Grasping his hand lightly, she lead over to a less crowded spot on the dance floor as many of the party goers flooded the floor ready to raise the roof. The cooes and taunts of Pikachu and Skorupi eventually fell on deaf ears as the music got louder. "My uncle taught us this when we were young.." she said to him, shuffling over a few feet to demonstrate the moves. Her uncle, mothers brother who was disinherited from the family fortune, had started his own ranch, and country dances such as these were incredibly popular at the few gatherings Wednesday and her siblings attended.
"First you clap" she smiled, easing him into the silly steps slowly, clapping in tune as the DJ began to turn up the volume and sing...
Boom Boom Clap Boom De Clap De Clap (Whoa, Whoa) 1,2,3 Everybody Come On, Off Your Seats I'm Gonna Tell You, About A Beat, That's Gonna Make You Move Your Feet I'll Give The Bar-B-Q, Show and Tell You How To Move If your 5 or 82 This Is Something You Can Do (Whoa, Whoa)
"First you've got to pop it and lock it" she explained, demonstrating by moving her arms, right first then left in a sort of wave motion. "Polka dot it" was the next step which entailed simply pointing your finger and shaking it out the side. "Countrify it" involved looking rather silly, hands on your belt area and several heel-toes "then hip-hop it" which involved some rather trendy hip-hop arm jerking. "Then...you have to put your hawk in the sky, move side to side." she explained, giggling almost childishly at Augustine and his willingness to participate. She moved over infront of him, touching his arms lightly, moving them in the motions of together like crossed arms, up to vertical and then front side to side. "It's quite easy now. Jump to the left, stick it, glide" Nes danced, hopping to the left gracefully, bringing her two feet together then gliding back in a step with one arm outstretched. "Don't worry if you can't get it first time, it does take some practice". In time for the next verse, she ran the moves altogether to show him how it would look when it was complete.
Pop It, Lock It, Polka-Dot-It Country-fy, then Hip-Hop it Put Your hawks In The Sky, move Side To Side Jump To The Left, Stick It, Glide.....
The seasoned dancers in the hoedown throwdown danced expertly during the first verse and chorus - several of them demonstrating as Nes was to younger or inexperienced club-goers. As Augustine and many of the others like him got to grips with the beginning, she and many others carried on into the next part, dancing almost step perfect showing them what else was to come.
Zig, Zag 'cross The Floor, Shuffle in Diagonal When The Drum Hits, Hands On Your Hips One Foot in, 180 Twist I said a, Zig Zag, Step, Slide, Lean it to the Back and Clap 3 Times Shake It Out, Head To Toe Throw It All Together, That's How We Roll Do The Hoedown (Throw down) Do The Hoedown (Throw down) Do The Hoedown (Throw down) Throw It All Together, That's How We Roll
When it came down to 'doing the hoedown', the move general seemed to be a free for all with different dancers doing different moves but many, including Nes, turned to their closest partner - the emperor- and grasped their hand - one arm outstretched, placing his other hand on her waist and hers on his and doing a brief polka/fast paced waltz in a circle before breaking, ready to start again. "And that's pretty much all the moves. If...you are uncomfortable..you don't have to.." she offered, doing her best to talk as the music got louder ready for the next section.

What a level-headed woman! Hmmm... she would have to climb the ranks to prove herself, but she had quite a prospect! Though she was more an "executive" stock, it would strike a balance that the kingdom would need.
"Not one bit, my lady. You have a head on your shoulders, thus I am interested in your point of view. It is quite a balancing act from what my father said."
The music was... unique. Yet, this was a level-headed woman with great potential. Flirting was a requirement not as Emperor, but as a man! Of course, love was a game of chess. One had to make sacrifices in order to win.
"A rich 'old school' man such as I will fit in with this? Ah, why not, eh? I'll blame it on the scotch!"
The footwork wasn't so bad... it was the handwork which got him clueless, as hip-hop was not a genre of choice. Feeling her hands on his arms, he could not help but smile briefly as he feebly attempted to do 'new style' dancing.
"Bloody hell... well, it is a challenge! I am not going to shirk from it so easily! Just... give me a moment to watch one round. I learn better from a visual."
He kept his footwork up, but paused for a moment to watch the arm movement. The liquid motions seemed to falter on him and he was quite robotic.
"Da...da...da... hmmmm... "
... He was horrible, but... he was the Emperor. It was one of his few luxuries to not give a damn about what other people thought of him. At last the part where the polka waltz was returned and he grinned.
"Ah! An easier part!"
Taking her hand again, he did the polka-waltz part without a hitch and with a Cheshire grin. Regardless of the kind of woman, it was an opportunity to flirt... something he took very seriously as he had to be an example of a man as well as a ruler. Catering to the girl's wishes was something every man should relent to every now and then.
... Oh to hell with excuses, he was having fun!
