A Baby's Moves and YOU!
Here are some general rules to follow:
- The Pokémon will start with any moves that it would learn as a "Start" move in its learnset (In Generation II and Generation III, they learned all moves that are level 5 and below in their learnset.).
- The Pokémon will start with any moves that it would learn by leveling up only if both parents know the move. This does not apply to moves that later evolutions can learn (such as Breloom's Mach Punch, which Shroomish cannot learn).
The Pokémon will start with any TM or HM moves (and starting in Crystal, move tutor moves) that the father knows and the baby can also learn by machine
- The Pokémon will start with any egg moves that the baby can learn and the father knows.
- The moves will take precedence in the order listed, and if there are more than four moves to learn, the moves will start being overwritten much like when leveling up at the Pokémon Daycare.
This means, a pokemon's original moves will be over written by TMs/HMs/MTs/and Egg Moves. However, seeing as it can know as many moves as it can, this does not apply! You can have a baby starting off with 5-7 moves if it has enough starting moves and the father knows 4 TMs/etc.
Shiny Pokemon and YOU!
There is a 1 in 2018 chance the pokemon will be shiny. Computer simulated die roller with 2018 sides would work well. However, this isn't going to happen often (if at all).
Species and YOU!
The hatchling will ALWAYS be the Mother's species. Gender can differ based on the species Male to Female ratio, but if a Father Onyx gets jiggy with a Mother Diglet, you aren't gonna be getting Giant Rock Snakes coming from there no matter what.
Gender and YOU!
Bulbapedia has a great feature that shows male to female ratio. Go ahead, flip a coin, roll a die with 100 sides, play eenie-meenie-minee-moe for all I care, but please don't put a male Nidoran(female) or a male/female voltorb. If the species is genderless or has only one gender, make it so.
